Disney does not owe an explanation to any of us as to why a dining location or even an attraction is unavailable for a few hours, a day or longer. It was clear they were closed due to an unscheduled situation.
The CMs that were present were not authorized to provide you a detailed explanation beyond the dining establishments was closed even if they knew exactly what caused the unscheduled closure. Oral statements to guests often generate the most extreme versions of "Telephone" distortion of the facts vs a published statement in today's world. Even published announcements are distorted or misquoted.
