Why is october "regular" season and not "value"?

It may be because of the popularity of the Very Mickey...Halloween Party. Some schools do have a Fall Break and many have Columbus Day off.

October is a busy month down there with the Food and Wine Festival at Epcot and Mickey's Not So Scare Halloween Party at MK. So maybe that's why it's considered regular season.

there are also generally many conventions in the area in october which increases park and resort volume slightly. still a great time to go though.

And it's popular because the weather is generally beautiful then.

we used to often go in october but after the crowds we experienced last year we will definitely steer clear. we were there a week and every single park was extremely crowded:confused:

We also went for a few days last Oct. and the only day we really noticed a large crowd was on Columbus Day Monday because the locals all had it off. As soon as Tuesday rolled around, the crowds were fine. We also attended MNSSHP around that time and had no problems at all with crowds.

October is becoming increasingly more popular.

I know this year my son has a really long Columbus Day weekend. He's off the Thurs & Fri before and then Mon & Tue after. I'm really thinking of making a short trip down. This is a new "break" schedule for us.

It's a popular month for Brits to visit, too. I don't know if there's some sort of school holiday, but when we were there a few years ago in Oct., every other person had a delicious accent!:D

We've been able to go in November since 1999 due to DD's school break. Unlike October, November was Value season up till Thanksgiving week. Have read here that for 2005 November will now be Regular season. That's the pits! Guess w/F & W, Halloween, Jersey Week, etc Disney saw a way of making more $.

Several schools in Kentucky and Tennessee have gone to a "modified" calendar. Some schools in Kentucky have the week of Columbus Day off, while some of the schools here in Middle Tennessee have the first 2 entire weeks of October off. Go 9 weeks, off 2, off 10 in summer. Last year was our first year for this calendar and lots of folks are trying WDW this year during this break.:hyper:

We used to go EVERY OCTOBER.....beautiful weather, discounted rooms and no people. We had the parks to ourselves. This was even during the golf tournament.

BUT folks caught on !! The last couple times we went the crowds were growing.

THEN Disney caught on and the room rates went up

That's when we stopped going in October.

ps Our kids were young enough to pull out of school.

Why, I'm  with your lovely comment about our accents :)

October is a very popular time for us Brit's to head over to Florida for two reasons - one we have a school half term week, so we tend to take a week off as well as this - and secondly is (used) to be a lot cheaper. However, the travel agents have cottoned on and now it's getting very pricey.

We have been the last two October and the difference from the first and last couldn't have been greater. October 2002 was just fantastic. Last October was heaving:( We still had a fantastic time though.

Sadly my new job as school secretary means I am stumped with school holiday time only, so we'll be heading over the middle of August . . . hope it's not too bad.

I SO wish our schools would do something like this. It would make vacationing at times other than June - August so much easier. Makes a bit more sense too. The rest of the world doesn't get 3 straight months off.

I still haven't figured out Disney's logic on things. If October is regular season because it is busy, then why is most of July and August still value season? I thought that summer was busiest (except for holidays). And, speaking of holidays, if Thanksgiving is as busy as I have heard, then why is it not peak or holiday season? Just wondering...
