Why is JFK Airport a dump?

How is it that in the largest city in the country, it has an airport that is a dump? Coming back from Orlando this past Sunday, I flew through JFK for the first time and found it to be old & dirty. It looks like they are building a new addition and hopefully all the old terminal space will be blown up.

Miami is OLD and DIRTY too, and run by a third world Nation, I NEVER fly out or in there!

Because it *is* old -- and busy. It's very hard to shut down any part of it in order to do serious renovations. Cleaning is another story, of course, but it can be hard to do that in such a crowded space, too.

The Port Authority of NY & NJ is in charge of the airport, btw, if you wanted to complain.

That must be the new construction I saw from where we transferred planes on JetBlue. Based on what I saw, it is WAY overdue.

We always think the same thing when we return from anywhere to Philly. We joke that it's such a lovely shade of cement gray.
