Hi everyone.

We just got Jet Blue here in Maine this month. I have checked their fares for summer and I keep coming up with $400+ for a ticket for Maine to Orlando. I thought this was supposed to be a low cost carrier! :confused3

Is there a trick to getting low fares with them? I have never flown on Jet Blue before. thanks.

Have you tried modifying your dates at all? I just looked it up for Sept. and it is the same price $94 each way as is Boston-MCO. Just for comparison you may want to check your same dates from Bos-mco.. just to see what it says..

Alot of our family lives around the Portland, ME area and they end up coming to Boston if the price is significantly cheaper. You can get a park & ride for $100 includes hotel room for 1 night and parking up to 10 days. Plus, you have a much better chance of getting a non stop out of Boston..

I love JetBlue..can't beat the Tv's!!

I just found flights from Portland ME to Orlando over the summer for $286.20 round-trip, which is an incredibly good fare. I didn't do anything special, but rather just entered random dates and just looked for the least expensive flights on each day.

Jet Blue is a low cost carrier.

The myth is that low cost carrier means low fares. Low cost refers to the fact that Jeb Blues costs are lower then the old traditional carriers like Delta, NW etc....

I guess I was believing the myth then. I always wondered why it was more expensive to fly Jet Blue than USAirways or Delta.

Did a quick check on week of Aug 8 - Portland ME to Orlando FL

Jet Blue $268 RT
Delta - $376 RT although one fare was $276 (leaving MCO at 7AM)

It is not necessary true that Jet Blue is the most expensive. There are no more inexpensive carriers. Off times and dates and days of week get you lower fares. It is supply and demand. Simple economics.

To say that Jet Blue is the most expensive every time is not true.

We've chosen JetBlue, for price and service, the last few trips. While they're not always the least expensive, they typically are.

Another alternative if you don't want to fly out of Portland or Logan is to fly Allegiant out of Pease. It flies non-stop to Orlando/Sanford which is about 20 miles north of Orlando International. No Magical Express, but you can rent a car and drive to WDW in 45 minutes. Sanford is a lot easier to get in and out of and heck...Pease is only 30 minutes(I drive fast on the Turnpike) from Portland International.

Carol is right on. Out of Buffalo, Jet Blue has never come up as the lowest fare for me when I have traveled. However, they have come up for other routes as lowest such as New York and Ft, Myers for people i know.

Everyone I know that has flown them raves about the service. For me though, I shop price first, service second.

Unfortunately, airfare is really high this year and it's not just Jetblue.

I usually book right at 330 days or I wait for Jetblue, and with Delta not having guaranteed TVs, I decided to wait for Jetblue. Well, much to my surprise and disappointment, the opening rate was $240 which, based on years past, was high. Well, the $240 only lasted a few days and it's be up over $300 since. :( I wished I booked it at $240.

Delta and all other airlines are no better. All non-stops are over $300.

This is the longest I've gone without already buying my tickets. I'm hoping and praying for a sale. :(

JetBlue often has low fares. However, if you want to take advantage of them, you need to book close to the time the fares are released. As with all airlines, the closer it is to the flight date, the higher the ticket price will be.

As for fares this summer, they are high for all the airlines.

If Jet Blue direct from Buffalo to Orlando, I'd have my $200 roundtrip booked. But I'm waiting to see what Southwest does. If i HAVE to make a connection, I'm flying Jetblue. I love the TVs, the flight maps, the blue chips..... And free wireless while you wait at JFK is nice, too.
