That orange smarties taste of orange but the others don't taste of anything except chocolate

I have had to give up smarties I was eating about 3 tubes a time! I don't feel the same about them now they have changed there shape anyway..

Tony, should have realised you'd know I just can't abide orange chocolate so I really wish they didn't taste of orange - means I have to give all the orange ones to DH.

Handing over to my DH who was so intrigued by your query he kicked me off the PC so he could do some research

According to Wikipedia the UK is the only place that the chocolate in the orange Smarties are flavoured orange. I always thought it was the the coating so there you go. Apparently the light browns used to be coffee flavoured and the dark brown ones were plain chocolate.

I was also surprised to see that the red ones are not suitable for vegetarians as they contain cochineal!!

So there you go! I shall sleep easy tonight now I know this

I'm glad I'm not the only one that thinks that. Poeple laugh at me when I say they taste of Orange. I even did a taste test on my Fiance, he closed his eyes and I chose the colour that he had to eat. He then had to guess what colour it was from the taste.

The tubes..they are hexogon and do not have the lids any more I used to love seeing if i could get the letters for my name when I was a child.
