I end up reliving my own dog's demise all over again?

My SIL had to put her 14 year old lab down a few days ago and we just found out about it.

I just sent her an e-mail passing on our condolences, etc and I couldn't finish without adding my own tears.

It's been 5 years, and today it feels like yesterday. :(

Oh, Blondie, I know what you mean. I still cry my heart out over my cat's death (which was over 6 years ago)... :( :( :( :( :(

I know what you mean. We had a Golden Retriever named Sam that we dearly loved. He died 7 1/2 years ago. We still miss him.

maybe because they aren't animals to us, but loved members of the family. There is something to be said for a member of the family who is always happy to see you, and is thrilled just to have you pat it's head or rub them behind the ear. No matter what they are loyal and true, and are always there.... sound about right???

Afriend told me that just recently and it has stayed with me, since it is so true.

I usually lurk, not posting much...but this is close to my heart! we lost a rottie in May. he was getting senile at 11 yrs, that hurt but there was a reason for it. Then while we were on a trip we lost an 8 yr old Mastiff (Tinkerbell), to come home from a "vacation" and find that she died was heartbreaking!

we still had 2 dogs, but we have since gotten 2 more, we just LOVE animals! But I still cry over the loss of my Mastiff! Her father's name was "Magic", so as a tribute, that was what we named on of our puppies, a Newfoundland.

Now there is a possiblity that he may have some kidney problems...I am so nervous about the possibility of him being sick!

Animals really are more than just "pets", in our house they are members of the family. They watch over my kids when they are playing outside, and my DH feels better traveling when he knows the dogs are here!I'd be lost without them as my constant companions! I understand how you feel!

Blondie, would it help if you wrote your dearly departed doggey a letter. I know it sounds weird, but sometimes putting your thoughts on paper helps with the grieving. What was your doggey's name? Was your doggey a lab, too?

I am at work right now.. didn't feel like working much today. My 11 year Newfoundland died this past Friday night. I thought I would check out the DIS boards for some Disney magic. Right now, I feel like I will never get over the loss. My girls, 7 and 9, are really taking this hard. It seems everywhere I look in my house, it's a constant reminder of Skye. I'm glad to see that others can relate to the loss of a beloved pet. Thanks everyone!!!

Two years ago, my beloved beagle, Barney died suddenly. He had been a foundling almost 9 years earlier. He was far from perfect because he had been previously abused, but he was so devoted. He was sweet and funny and loving. I had the hardest time getting over him, even though we had 2 more dogs and 2 cats. Finally, I did what Browneyes suggested. I wrote him a "letter," (I hope you don't think I'm weird!), and I put it in the box which holds his ashes. I can still cry about him, but that letter helped me to heal somewhat. I've also since rescued 2 more beagles and a kitten (7 animals around this madhouse!). They definitely help perk things up around here! I think each animal has a unique personality and a soul. I grieve every one that I've lost, but I'm so thankful to have had them at all.

Because you cared. :) I'm sorry for your loss. :(

:( I just get choked up just thinking about what would happen if I lost my little guy. :(
