Why is it so complicated?

So we got this urge, once again, to go down to Disney.
Everything is good...amazing flight prices, good deals... time off seems ok too.... geez. Now...the issue is money...not that we don't have it...but I find it so hard now to just spend on a trip!

We have a house and I find it would be so beneficial for us to invest in the house....but we still need to live right? lol

I'm sure we aren't the only ones dealing with this....

YOu have plenty of time to upgrade your house. You may not be able to go to Disney again... :) I say go on vacation, enjoy things and deal with the house when you return!

I know... that's what we used to say before "the hell with it"...lol
At least now...this trip would be paid...not put on credit :)

I feel your pain.

We are getting into the habit of WDW every other year, with the beach or something different the other years. This was to be a something different year, but ended up doing an emergency roof fix and then totally redoing both kid's rooms. So we ended up at King's Island this summer and a few Reds baseball games. It was still fun.

If the house needs necessary fixes (like the roof) then I definately say do that instead. If it's just cosmetics, then take the fam to WDW!! Life's too short to worry about getting the house perfect - family memories and quality time together will have a much more lasting impact than new carpet or landscaping.

I go through the money "guilt" every time we go to Disney. But I never regret going and the memories my family get from our WDW trips.

Only you can decide what the best thing to do for your family is.

See "family" is only me & DH... lol
No kids depending on us at this time.

Might as well enjoy it right? LOL

Life is for living. If you truly love going to Disney, then dont look at it as just a trip. Look at it as you are doing something that you love. Unless your home is falling apart, go for it.

I agree...if the roof isn't leaking, you are good to go....But, being that Ilive 40 minutes from the house of Mouse, I have a different view than most others. I do about 10 or 15 - 3 day vacations to disney a year....and still manage to get yard work done.:confused3

We cut corners in other ways, don't go out to eat much, rarely go to movies, etc. but we have made family vacations a priority. You never know what is going to happen. We try to be very choosy with souvenirs we buy also. I enjoy the pictures from my trip way more than I enjoy most other items that we pick up. When we get home I make up a nice mypublisher photobook and relive the memories over and over. We stay connected by this special time that we spend together doing things that we love to do.

:confused3 WTHeck? Why couldn't they go back to Disney next year? Is it closing?

She was just at disney 8 months ago.

The one thing you said that is good, is you won't be doing it on credit. You got that going for you :thumbsup2

DH and I went twice a year for a long time. We wouldn't change a thing. HOWEVER, we do wish we had not spent SO much and could have used that money for other things, like an emergency fund for when I was layed off for a year!!!!

The answer you're going to get on here is to go to Disney, of course. We're all fanatics. But, in reality, only you can decide.

We have a trip planned and we are saving money by squeezing our budget, we are NOT using any credit or taking away from anything else. I COULD use that money to fix up my backyard, or my basement, but I choose Disney for right now, and plan to do so every year - balancing home and family needs with Disney needs.

Face it - most home values are going to continue downward, so fixing up your house may not be a benefit in the price if you choose to sell it.

Good luck deciding! Disney is certainly an addiction that is hard to give up. We gave it up for 12 years - buying a house, having kids, somehow it was never the right time. But now it is the right time and nothing is going to stop us!!!!!

LOL-I am trying to convince DH that DVC is for us. He says "that is $xxxx.xx that you could be spending on the house".. I will wear him down:rotfl: No-he does see the benefit since we go every 1 1/2-2 years, and will continue to go, so I am almost there!!! So I say "GO!! HAVE FUN!!DO IT!!" We understand, even though 99% of the rest of the world doesn't!

I hear ya.
There are definitely more important things I could be putting my money towards.
My excuse is that my hubby is deploying and we won't see each other for a year, so we really need to live it up while we can still spend some time together. :lovestruc

I know what you mean about Cincinnati. Great place to vacation methinks. We used to take the kids to Kings island, The Cincinnati Zoo, and of course Reds games.

And I've spent some time in Russell Kentucky too. Taught at RHS for 30 years. Go Devils!:cool1:

Then by all means GO! Enjoy spending time with him while he's here, you can always work on the house while he's gone. He'd probably even appreciate it! :) Tell your husband THANK YOU from me for serving his country and putting is life on the line so I can enjoy the freedoms of living in the United States of America. And THANK YOU for being supporting him and being a military wife, it's not easy.

I need to get away from time to time in order to preserve my own mental health. In fact right now Im about to go stir crazy (have been for about two months). We are leaving October 4. We went on a nice Disney trip in March, but didnt get to get away this summer at all. Its just how I am. Now I can afford a trip. I will use my cards on the trip so I dont have to carry cash, but those are ALWAYS paid off when the bill comes. I only owe on my mortgage. I refuse to even buy a car on credit--cash only for me. I could spend the money on the house. A nice place to live is a good thing. But I am not happy without trips. So its a priority for me. I will not apologize to anyone that I choose to spend my money on travel. I am a happier, more productive person when I travel periodically. I wish the OP, and all on the board a magical vacation, whether or not they have chosen Disney this time. Do not apologize to others for taking and enjoying a vacation you can afford.

the way i see it, the housing marking drops so fast, any money you put in to your house dont make a dif. give the money to your broker to invest and we know how that will turn out. so i fiqure i can blow my money as well as anyone so i say, OFF TO THE WORLD.:lmao:

thank you.
I'll let him know you said that, it's things like that that keep him going from day to day. :goodvibes ...and me too, for that matter.
