Why is it customary to give a tour of a house?

I hate 'having' to go on a 'tour and do not give them. Marie, on the other hand, loves going on the 'tours', if we visit somebody and they ask. She asks me to join (I oblige her, learned that is best ), though I barely look at anything, just my footing so I do not trip on something, LOL. If she gives a 'tour' of our place, I never go on it with anybody.

God, I hate that. You have a house? Guess what? I've seen houses before.

And I just hate it when people ask for a tour. I say that I don't really do tours, but they can look around if they want. Some actually do.

I would never ever in a million years ask for a tour. Either people want to show you around or they don't.

I do however offer a quick tour when people come over. It's the first house I've ever owned and I like to show people some of the things I've done with it. Not to mention We have a game room that is upstairs so it seems silly to march everyone upstairs but have all the other rooms closed off and not show people whats up there.

Since it's our first home together people are usually eager to take a look around and I am proud to be a first time homeowner so I like to show them around. The house is only 2900 square feet though so it sure doesn't take an hour to show it off!!! LOL!

When we first bought our house and people were there for the 1st time, many asked for a tour. I was happy to show them. Of course, in an 1800 SF Cape, the tour lasts about 3.5 minutes!

I like seeing the homes of my friends.

And as a home owner I like showing my friends what I've done around the house if they haven't been there before.

Our old house in America was small and by the time you made it to the bathroom, you had given yourself a tour. The livingroom led to the diningroom/kitchen. From either of these rooms, you could enter one of two bedrooms. Our only bathroom was between the two bedrooms. You could run a cirle through the entire 975 sq ft house.

Our current house I give tours when freshly arriving people come over because I like for them to have an example of what kind of house you can get for the money you pay. The realtors don't always show the best houses and don't always want to let people know they can haggle for things like air conditioners, etc when they agree on a rent price.

I'm incredibly nosey about houses and I love it when people give me a tour. Although, I think an HOUR is a bit excessive unless it's some kind of national landmark.

When we first moved in to our current home, we had a party soon afterward and I showed lots of folks around. It only takes about 5 minutes though. The joys of an open floor plan--you can stand in the family room and see the kitchen, dining room, and library from there.

We've never lived anywhere that would take an hour, but we've found that people sort of expect to be shown around a home they've not been in before. And since I'm known among my friends for my creative decorating, my friends especially expect to see what I've done with the place we live.

I expect we'll be doing a lot of tours when we get settled and get the renovations going at the new house, because we're restoring a 130 year old Victorian and it is the kind of thing that people are curious about. I've got over 100 'before' pictures already, and I'm looking forward to adding some 'afters' to the collection!
