Why is Coronado Unavailable Until August 10?

My post you quoted was in response to PP saying that perhaps they are deciding to close CSR because they have a low number of bookings this summer. I disagreed with that - I think if they are going to close any resort in the moderate category due to a low number of bookings, it would be POR or POFQ. Even if CSR has the least number of bookings out of all the moderates, I think they would keep it open and move people from another resort to there, mostly because if the new refurbishments and amenities. Plus they may still have some business travelers over the summer.
Concur. One of the other threads here mentioned Disney is holding conventions to their contracts (even if it’s cancelled and no one goes they owe Disney money because the facilities were open). Idk if Disney can do that if they take away the convention facility.

I have thought maybe they’d close a resort or 2 but CSR is a weird one to pick. Have any other hotels gone unbookable? GD has more expensive rooms & maintaining them should be easier due to proximity so it should have good margins. I’d at least keep the tower running if I was closing that one for this reason.

And I think because it's new and has better amenities is exactly why they'd offer it to the NBA. These guys are pretty pampered. Guests booked at CSR aren't going to be all that disppointed when they get moved to a deluxe for their troubles. Usually when Disney moves you to another resort it's an upgrade in category, not just a better resort in the same category.
The tower rooms reminded me of Lowes hotel rooms, not Disney’s, so I can see that.

A TA I’ve used in the past has rooms at Coronado for the beginning of June. Not sure if she has any currently available but I remember seeing them listed the other day. TA’s operate group deals so maybe they have shut off this hotel to only the groups/conventions they are left working with.

Right... I agreed with that in my previous post. IF the NBA does work something out to play their remaining games and IF that takes place at Disney, its entirely possible they will be housed at CSR.

Anything is possible but those group blocks are typically booked well in advance. Its my understanding that people with existing CSR reservations still have them, but no new ones can be made at this point (until August).

The NBA rumor is making more and more sense.

We have a stay booked at CSR the last week in August (was booked before COVID happened) so it will be interesting to see what happens.

Yes. Everyone with CSR reservations still has them (I’ve got one in June. Still live, no changes.)

FWIW, latest articles I've read today say that NBA players are pushing to cancel the remainder of the season. Same with NHL. They have concerns over having enough offseason time to recover from any injuries, etc. Its possible this may not even come to fruition because the players' union needs to be in agreement with the changes as well.

My curiosity is up! This being a glitch no longer seems likely as its been days. I'll be interested to hear if anyone from CSR hears from WDW in the next month (unless we all hear we're canceled 😬).

Chances are, as someone else said, they've blocked off the resort just in case it happens. It's not like there aren't thousands of rooms available right now. Disney really has nothing to lose by blocking reservations, just in case.

Wonder if this is just SOP for Disney when making a large room offering to any group?

Try booking for September. I looked at dates 9-13 thru 9-19 and 3/4 of the resort is unavailable. What’s up with that????

I wouldn’t get too uppity considering their record before the season got paused...they might get on property but they’re looking at an unrenovated Little Mermaid room where they gotta walk 8 miles just to fill their mugs

trust the process

Hmm...I rebooked from cancelled trips 2 weeks ago. CSR 7/11-7/13. Hopeful but not too optimistic ☹️

When I do a search over the first week of July CSR is now available again. It’s for the really expensive suites, but available nonetheless.
