Why is Aug so busy? (Non FD days)

Hi,

My ADR's fall during the week of 8/8/10-8/13/10. We are eating at I would say popular to not so popular places. My IPO for the WL CL are working as hard as they can to add an extra adult to 2 out of my 5 ADR's...Garden Grill and Sci Fi. I love them to pieces and they are working so hard at it for us! They are saying the restaurants are fully booked, and they are unable to add 1 more person, making a party of 7. Ok, I do understand we would be a party of 7, but we were already a party of 6. From what I gather Garden Grill is only open for 1 meal a day. So I understand that it may be hard to get ressies. So my question is, why so busy? I understand it is the summer/peak season. But I also understand from the DISboards that a lot of people do not plan ADRs ahead of time. Any thoughts? Just curious...I am very to happy what we have...But, is this an indication that more people are doing ADR's regardless of FD or are the parks/resorts that full right now that every restaurant is fully booked...

It is my opinion that with the dinning plan that more and more people are booking ADR's. Also I know that there is free dinning during that time. It was a Disney VISA pin. That is probley another point to the probem.

When you went from 6 to 7 they now have to seat you at a table for 8. There is no "just pull up a chair".

Even if you had a ADR for 7 and went to 8 therefor seating at the same table, I still think they just can't go into the system and say OK same table just another person and now the tables is filled. They have to find you another table of 8 and sit you there and then cancel the first res. I think even if you delete the first and then try to rebook the same table the system may not let you or someone else could grab it before the res agent could "find" it again.

The people who don't plan ADR's for busy times are the people who don't get to eat TS.

I belive that is the week that the Tupperware convention is taking place. Thye often feed the conslutants very well and sposes however most are taking their faimlies this year as it is being held right on Disney this yr at CSR. I don't know if thats why your having a harder time but it might have something to do with it. As they have been only have one convention for everyone for a few yrs.

As you say, it is summer/peak season, but even during slow/value seasons restaurants fill up quickly.

Garden Grill is a character dinner so it is quite popular. Even though a lot of people don't plan their ADRs, there are thousands of families at DisneyWorld on any given day and even if a small percentage of them make ADRs, the more popular TS restaurants will fill up.

Thanks to all. (With the exception of one the replies) I appreciate the expertise of people on the DIS boards. However, I do not understand why some people respond with such a tone (have seen this on many threads)...It was a innocent question/observation, I did not expect to be chastised for it. Like I said, I am happy with what I have and love my IPO to pieces-they have been super to us, so if it does not work out, it does not work out, no big deal! O well, to each his own! Most of the folks on the DIS boards are very pleasant in their replies and I look forward to many more exchanges....

Some people just like to pee in other people's cheerios. Shrug it off and report the post (yes, rudeness is a reportable offense ).

As far as adding one person to reservations, the typical advice these days is to remake as many reservations as you can for roughly the same time. Those that you can't remake, just let them know at the podium. There may be a slightly longer wait, but most restaurants do what they can to seat you.

We got a free dining pin that was good until Aug 13. We're going 7/31-8/7 with FD so I'm sure plenty of others got it as well
