Why is adding on direct so popluar lately?

we are comparing both of our situations that are completely different i bought sept use year and got 2012 and 2013 points and i got it a 102 2 weeks ago. so if i saw a contract come up with no points until 2014 i feel like its not worth it. i am buying these to use points i want to get that 2 bed room next year with out borrowing 2014 points. it worked for you i am happy......the deals are just not as drastic now for 50 points or less

But you were the one that brought up the contract I bought, no? But anyways to each their own. I dont need the points till 2014 as I have plenty to use so it worked out well for me.

I would add that if you were able to get on the wait list BEFORE the price increase, then the gap between direct and resale isn't as dire for small contracts. But that point is basically moot because people who decide they want to add-on now through Disney will be paying $130-$165 per point, depending on the resort. And that makes small resale contracts at $75-$80 per point still a deal (though using a completely stripped contract isn't a fair comparison).

I'm sure there are a lot of factors people buy retail, resale is more a matter of savings and/or finding something you can't find retail. I'm not sure now is any different than in the past. It seems that every higher demand resort has prompted sales both retail and resale. I think the GF anticipation and price increases are the main reasons for the current interest we're seeing. I don't think DIS alone is enough to make judgements of general trends. Everyone has their own reasons and that's fine, I just want people to understand what they're getting and not getting for their money and to limit their risk as much as possible.

Would add that debate is great, but it needs to be honest debate. Making broad generalizations based on one contract price does not qualify in my opinion.

I know the availability of BCV is very scarce right now. Has anyone seen an add on for BCV (under 75 points) available via resale in the last 6 months? Maybe this would be something that going direct would be required??

I have not seen a thing and I am also on the wait list for 50 points been on since feb sept use year

I've seen one 40 point contract but was to late to bid on it. This was about a month ago

You really have to be super quick or be on a call list to snag one of those.

This is why so many people got on the direct waitlist before the price went up. I'm still kicking myself for not getting on for BCV 40 points at $115pp.

I have only seen a few small contracts under 50 points. Is availability normally so limited for all resorts? They all seem to go quickly?

The main reason you won't see too many small (25 to 75) point contracts is because Disney requires a minimum buy-in. Usually 160 points but have heard of isolated incidents of 50 or 100. The exisiting small contracts are from members adding on after their initial purchase, those start at 25 points. As stated before, those contracts go quickly and go at a higher price so there doesn't appear to be much difference between buying direct and resale. Much less hassle to just pick up the phone and get on the waiting list.

Availablity seems to depend on Use Year and there also seems to be no problem with resorts that they are still actively selling, AKV and Aulani.

I saw a blast today for 100 bcv points for 87 a point it had a few banked points but not the full 100 we are getting closer to the 100 dollar a point line

It looked like the same contract sent out about 1 week ago for $83. OP said the contract from last week sold for $87 after bidding war. Relisted??

We have been on the wait list for 50pts at BCV about 5 weeks now this past Monday.
