"Why in the world do you want to go to Disney World?!"

Yeah, I was asked that very question last week when I was waiting at Triple A to see my travel agent. My mom and I were waiting to purchase my tickets, hotel room, and flight back and this lady was sitting there with her daughter (about 18 years old) and she said, "Oh! You are graduating from college? Where are you planning on going for your trip?" I said," Disney World." Her daughter laughed and she said, "Why on earth would you want to go there???" I just looked at her thinking that surely she was kidding. Nope, she looked at me and waited for an answer. I said, "Because I love it there!" She was like, "Why don't you go to Mexico or something?" I responded, "Because I do not want to be around a lot of drunk and disorderly college kids. Plus, there are no rides!" She was so rude and tried to make me seem juvenile for wanting to go to WDW as my graduation gift from my parents. Has anyone else run into a similar situation? Was I being too sensitive? I thought it was quite rude of her.

The best response to all intrusive and impertient questions is to look at the questioner, smile, and say "why do you ask?" Its the polite way to say "MYOB." It also really throws people for a loop when they realize that the best answer they have is "I'm just curious."

crisi- Good advice! I was just so shocked and I would have NEVER imagined someone being so blunt. I had no time to think about it. I was definitely caught off guard, but I will definitely use your advice if someone is ever so brazen again
