Why I'm Scared of an Obama Presidency

And EXXON MADE RECORD PROFITS THIS QUARTER, another newsworthy story today. Bush's ties to the oil is undeniable.

So is the link to a good many retirement funds and pensions. Do you really want to see them suffer?

Instead of *****ing about how much money the oil companies make, why not invest in them (you probably are but don't know it)? Then you could "share the love".

And I wonder how many rich Democrats are heavily invested in "big oil"? Hmmm...

This isn't quite accurate. He's proposing to create an entirely new federal agency - The Office of Tire Pressure and Car Maintence Compliance - to solve our energy problems.

:rotfl2: :lmao: :rotfl:

I think I should turn myself in. I've got a slow leak in one of my tires...

OMG and what about the New Yorker with its satire regarding just that?? Its not just e-mails, its Fox News, internet, many places doing it. Its fear mongering propaganda and the worst kind.

FYI, it was the LA Times that got the whole "race thing" going with it's article, "Is Obama black enough". Google it.

Ba-zing!

I read on the blogosphere that someone had calculated that the fuel savings derived from over-inflated tires would require over 11,000yrs to overtake the loss of oil from continued restricted drilling......

Of course this is just silly math.......but it was a silly suggestion from Sen Obama after all (which one of his 300 advisors recommended it?- they should be fired or promoted!) :rotfl2:

..... Misinformed if what I'd call it. You've been told that things are much worse than they actually are, and you believe it.

Grossly overstating the extent of our economic problems doesn't actually help anything, does it?

I don't think things are overstated at all. I think those that believe THAT are the ones that are comfortable and NOT feeling it. Numbers don't lie and one need just look at them to see the proof of the headlines.....

Now I'm not following you. Are you saying that Judge didn't say that Bush and his Aides are not immune to suppoenas today? That Bush was trying for immunity to this, that this is not a fact, just an opinion? :confused3  Or that Exxon didn't make record profits this quarter, its just someones opinion?? Was it 11.9 billion dollar profit? I guess thats not what you call FACT just an opinion? Phew that is loopy. Isn't that what I stated in the posts you are referring to? Sorry don't follow. Are you saying that the polls on the news today are just an opinion, that the majority of Americans think the country is in great shape, its some kind of lie, that Bush's approval rating isn't 20 something percent? its a lie or propaganda? I don't follow this. Sorry.

Let me clue you in on something. When they do opinion polls, they are asking folks for their opinion. None of the other stuff above it has a hill of beans to do with the economy other than one company is doing really well in the "worst economy ever".

Currently having a problem is still a problem. I don't understand your point of view.
I don't need 20 second bites, I live it everyday.

My brother's work was in credit/home loans, he's hurting. The condos around here are empty, being rented for apartments. You can see it happening everywhere.

I live where the gas prices are highest in the country. Our CTA is packed to the gills because of gas prices. (actually a good thing, less pollution)

Grocery prices are going way up.

The amount of self-pay, medicaid patients in our hospital is doubling.

Lay-offs in the hospital are getting worse, not better. No raises this year.

Home heating costs will be worse this winter.

Retirement/stocks are plummeting.

Our dollar is just sad.

Cities are actually promoting "staycations" because people can't afford to go anywhere.

Current unempoyment rate 5.5%
Average income $48,201 up from 1 year ago
Poverty Rate 12.3% The first decline this decade
Every production catagory up including housing starts up 9.9%
Oil prices are down this month.
GDP rose 1.1%

Those are the facts that run the economy, the sky simply is not falling. As I said, I am hurting too, I have been out of work for 10 months, my prices are rising just as everyone elses is, but raising taxes and increasing governement expenditures is not going to help the economy in anyway.

Actually it looks like I've lit you up like a Christmas Tree. LOL :goodvibes

It would take much more than you to light me up. I find it sad that so many people don't understand things.

They do that bc you GET TO THEM. They have no real answer to what you tell them so they resort to belittling and insulting. They have no real answers to whats going on, and the FACTS that are being presented to them. They can't escape these facts, ever. The country is in bad shape now, and the polls today proved that the approval rating of this country and what people think of the economy is the worst than its been in decades. A Bank went under. I didn't even get into the housing market. Everyone is paying higher prices for food, clothes, gas, everything, that is a fact. Companies are going under. We just outsourced Budweiser. They can't deny that. They'll have some silly answer but the facts are the facts. Hopefully most will smarten up, but the record voting proves these facts also.

I just posted a whole bunch of facts, why don't you try and do the same to support your stance, because so far all you have presented is opinions and a couple of facts that don't support anything your talking about.

Your right, numbers don't lie, I just posted the numbers above, they don't support the claims that the economy is in bad shape.

LOTS of places in Europe. I have friends overseas and shops that used to be happy to take a dollar now have signs that say "Euros Only".

Conversely, in the US, there aren't any places that take anything BUT the US dollar (with minuscule fractional exceptions).

So, what's your point? In Europe, where the Euro is the currency, they take... the Euro (What a surprise!)

Don't tell anyone, but I hear in China, the merchants don't take the Euro OR the dollar. They take the Renminbi. Oooooooo....

Numbers may not lie, but selectively using them won't provide an accurate picture either. Yes, Exxon may have had record profits, but their profit margin was considered quite weak. Exxon's profit margin was 8.5% - Disney's was 13.9%, but we're not on here talking about how horrible they are.

And, yes, foreclosure rates are high. But most of those people should not have been in that house to begin with. I worked in the mortgage banking business and we all had a feeling of what would eventually happen. Too many banks, including the one I worked with, with horribly lenient lending practices and too many people wanting a house that deep down they knew they couldn't afford.

Oddly, it is the OS, and Obama himself that keep bringing race into this.

I for one, could give a rat's patootie what color the man's skin is. (BTW, some in the "black" community don't consider him "black" because he is of mixed heritage.)

This is coming from a McCain supporter that voted for Alan Keyes (an educated BLACK MAN) against GWB. Too bad he wasn't able to beat Obama for the IL Senate seat.

And, since you're the one bringing up the "scariness" of a "black man" running for POTUS, I'd bet that the conservative McCain supporters, like me, who have many disagreements with his policies, would be MUCH MORE supportive of him if Condi Rice (an educated BLACK WOMAN) or Michael Steele (an educated BLACK MAN) were his running mate.

I am editing the post. I will still ask the other two.

OK this is very interesting. Why do you feel this way?

What are the specifics with regards to Steele and Rice's policies to that you agree?

What is it about them that makes you feel safe?

Why would Obama need Condi or Steele to be on the ticket to make you feel more comfortable? G

I think they were talking about Condi or Steele being McCain's running mate.

I personally know of businesses in the US that take CAD $, MXN $, EUR €, and GBP £. Much like the previously mentioned businesses, the majority are businesses that cater to tourists and in the case of the MXN $ and CAD $, businesses close to the border.

Someone was discussing oil and profits. I just need to know what you think about.

How are Exxon Mobil and other oil companies tied to Iraq?

Do they benefit from this war?

Do they give any compensation to the govt?

Does the govt have any control of the oil companies?

:thumbsup2
We bught our house three years ago.The mortgage is an amount we feel comfortable with. We have a little wiggle room. We could have gone slightly higher, but we didn't want to push our budget. Having said this, the lender was willing to give us almost double. There is no way we would have taken a loan of that amount. We could have paid it and utilities, food and transportation and some limited expenses (cheap clothes for the kids), but that's it. There wouldn't have been a penny extra.
Too many people made poor loan choices, and too many banks were more then willing to let them.

I wonder what the profit $ and profit margin was for "An Inconvenient 'Truth'"?

Couldn't have cost that much to throw together. Throw in some half-truthes, and semi-facts, shoot it out to the masses... how many gazillion dollars did it make?

Where's the "windfall profit tax" here?

Don't forget the carbon credits company that Gore has his hands in. He is making millions on fear and "eco-guilt" but uses 17 months of the Average Americans energy in 1 month for just 1 house.

Yes, I think we need to be responsible human beings when it comes to the Earth. But, do I put much store in Carbon Credits (in the Catholic faith we once called this INDULGENCES) or Footprints? No. As our planet actually needs carbon to survive. If it didn't have carbon, it would be too cold to live here. Also, according to studies human beings account for a whopping 3% of the Earth's Carbon Emissions, if you don't believe me click here. The rest have a great deal to do with rotting plants.

So you're right, numbers don't lie. But people who stand to make a fortune off of our fear and guilt do.

I had to write a piece on this for our local Parents Magazine. I found that I couldn't write what I was given "Help your children lower their carbon footprint" based on the evidence I found. So I wrote it all on teaching your children to be responsible about their waste. I also recently watched Penn & Teller's episode on this. Entire thing made me madder than Hell.
