Why I'm Scared of an Obama Presidency

I haven't readthe whole thread, but I thought the OP was an excellent well-thought out post. :thumbsup2 I may have a slightly different take on some of those points, but all in all I agree.

I understand and agree.

Do you feel that Obama is more at risk than McCain? If so, why?

I do think he is more at risk than McCain, because of people's perceptions of him...not that they have taken time to research or lean more, but what they have already decided. His race, name, religion, etc.

If you consider the example of the nutcase in Tennessee who just shot up a UU church and killed two people because he 'hates liberals' you might think the right-wing has more than their share of crazies with guns. :confused3

btw, HI HOLLY!
:)

And for those of you who say Senator Obama can't speak without a teleprompter and only reads other people's words I ask you to watch a re-run of Meet the Press from yesterday. He's eloquent and smart. Two things we need and haven't had lately in a president.

Subscribing. Not putting an opinion on who should be Pres and this may or may not have been said before but I have a strong belief that whoever wants to be in the Oval Office should have served our country in the military.

I feel this way for Senate & Congress too. How can you vote our country into/out of war if you haven't laid down your life for it?

That's just my opinion.

I am not forming an opinion on Obama vs. McCain. I haven't yet made up my mind. However, a little bit of Presidential trivia.

Although most former presidents have indeed served in the military, a couple of notable presidents did not. FDR never served in the military, but prosecuted most of WWII. He did serve as an Assistant Secretary of the Navy during WWI, but that of course is a civilian position. And Woodrow Wilson also never served in the military, but was the president during WWI.

I could not agree more with this thread.

I used to think this, too, and it certainly is the ideal, but I think it's unrealistic in today's world. A couple of generations ago, nearly every able-bodied man did a stint in the service, but no more.

I just think the man or woman who wants to be commander-in-chief must respect, revere, and honor those who serve with genuine and profound sincerity. I think Sen. Obama showed us what he thinks of the US military when he blew off visiting our wounded soldiers in Germany because he wasn't going to be permitted to make a campaign video out of it, and went "sightseeing" instead. I believe that he, like President Clinton before him — and like most of the far left today — has nothing but sneering contempt for those who volunteer to serve their country in the military. They think military people are either baby-killing psychopaths or illiterate hicks. And they think this, of course, because they don't know any people in the military.

I totally agree, which is ironic considering its the poor and uneducated that get them elected.

I don't see how eloquence is a prerequisite to be President. It means NOTHING. Snake oil salesmen are quite eloquent.:sad2:

Such total spin, you and McCain. Does not really matter if Obama went to the hospital in Germany or not, either way he would have been wrong. I heard Chuch Hagel say he did the right thing in not going to the base in Germany because Obama was traveling on campaign money when he got to Germany. The trip to the Middle East was a Congressional Delegation, they saw the troops, talked to the General.

Maybe you could provide a link to either Clinton or Obama saying the military are baby killing psychopaths or illiterate hicks. I wonder how people come up with this stuff, and it amazes me that anyone really believes it. I may not like McCain but there is enough out there that I don't have to make up stuff.

I was thinking the same thing. Successful con artists and scammers are usually extremely eloquent.

How do you explain Bush then? He is a con artist and a scammer and he can't string together a coherent sentence.

What a bunch of crap. Don't vote for someone because he can speak well. Yeah, that makes a lot of sense. About as much sense as voting for someone just because he was a POW.

No one is saying they are NOT voting for Obama because he can speak well (which is debatable). You are the one listing it as a reason that you ARE voting for him. Vote for someone because he can speak well. How does that make sense?

That is an ignorant and factually false statement. It's very insulting to the MANY members of the military that are Democrats or left-leaning Independents.

Contrary to what some Republicans would like to believe, they don't own the military. Our military is made up of Americans of all backgrounds and political leanings- including many on the left.
