Just some thoughts about how the DP works and doesn't work for us. FWIW!

So I've done the dining plan in the past (pre 2008 changes) and have enjoyed it. I like it being pre paid, like the convenience and sometimes we even made out well $$$.
Here is why I won't be doing it: My second child just turned 10. Having 1 child 10 was tough enough - it was less of a value. Sometimes we ate at character and buffets where he would be the adult price anyway. But, many times we ate at places that let him order off the children's menu, which he is still happy to do. But now he is 11 and his sister is 10. Neither of them eat much nor have adult tastes. So, while I still like the idea of the dining plan, it is not the right plan for my family for most of our trips.

Here is why I will be doing it! I'm going to Disney over Thanksgiving with my extended family (10 people). We have decided that the convenience of pre paid meals for a large group is worth it - less fighting over the bills- everyone will have paid for MOST of their own. We can fight over appetizer, tip and drinks, not quite as bad!

Again, just my 2 cents.

As for me - I want the Delux plan with the wine!!!!!

I have to agree with you that the thought of paying for a 10 year old as an adult is ridiculous! I am taking the deluxe dining plan in August and the thought of paying $70.00 a day for my 10 year old is laughable..:rotfl: Disney should really consider changing there age restriction on the meal plan to 12 and under...like 99% of restaurants across the country. I will not tell you what I do because I will get slammed on this site..but as long as my son eats off the childrens menu I do not feel like I am ripping off Disney...I am a family of 5..2 adults and 3 kids...I was at The Poly in November and will be at The CR in August..Both trips will cost way over $7000.00...I feel your pain! ;)

diff't strokes for diff't folks... at 9yo my kids were more than ready for the adult ddp and i was sooooo glad last year when ds finally turned 10 so he could be on the adult plan and off the chicken nugget/lousy pita pizza plan... we did a ton of AYCtoE meals and buffets just so he would not be so limited...

we did the ddp w/a large group last year and it worked out wonderfully for just the reasons the OP stated... it will just be the five of us this year but still consider ddp worthwhile to our family...
