Why I like the 4 day cruise.....

I love the fact that after visiting Castaway Cay, you get a day at sea before disembarking. We really enjoyed out 7 day cruise last year, but felt very rushed to get packed that night after being at Castaway Cay all day, then going to see the kids in their show, then going to Disney Dreams, then having dinner. My DH didn't get to see the Character's Farewell (which was wonderful! They hadn't done this on our previous cruises).

This September we have a 3 day booked (wanted to hang out at WDW, we like it there too). Then we have another 7 day booked for next February (want to try the Eastern one), but after that I think we may go with the 4 day one. If you don't get off at Nassau, it should be rather relaxing.

Anyone else like the day at sea before having to disembark?

Did you have a change in itinerary because of weather perhaps? CC is always the last day of the cruise on all of the itineraries as listed by DCL. And it was on our 4 day.

Or has something changed that isn't reflected in the posted itineraries?

No, we were suppose to have a day at sea after Castaway Cay. I just checked Disney's site and it looks like if you go to Freeport, then you go to Castaway Cay the last day of the cruise. Our 4 day didn't go to Freeport, so we went to Castaway Cay on Tuesday and had a day to relax at sea on Wednesday. Here is the webpage with the itinerary:

I hope the 4 day I booked at the end of 2004 doesn't go to Freeport, I didn't realize that we would lose our day at sea if it did that (we had only been on the one that didn't stop at Freeport).

I look forward to my four day but I know it's going to be too short. My family doesn't plan to get off the boat at all until we get to Castaway Cay, of course.

My 4 day this summer had a day at sea last also. It was wonderful!

...but DH and I got to thinking about this. We leave this Sunday on a 4-day with a day at sea. When we were on the 3-day, the last night coming back from CC, I remember looking out a porthole and by the look of the water, could tell that we were "bookin"! What do they do on the sea day - do they travel at a more leisurely speed, or do they divert course a bit to stretch it out? Natt

On our day at sea last week on the 4 day cruise, they were traveling between 6 and 7 knots. It was pretty slow, lol. Many people who do not like sea days complained that it was a "wasted" day. I personally love sea days !

The captain makes sure that he is travelling in areas that are calm and actually will turn around and sail in a different direction if there are storms ahead. He does the best he can at this. I mean if we are sailing into a storm towards the end of the day, he may not have a choice.

On our 4 day, we woke up very early and noticed that the ship was very slowly turning away from a storm. Very calm waters. Wouldn't even have noticed if we weren't out on our verandahs watching. The most amazing thing about this was that as we were turning away the most beautiful rainbow appeared! I actually ran into the state room and dragged my kids out of bed! I said, "You'll never see anything like this again!" I hope they appreciate it some day!

Here's my take on the original premise...

On our most recent cruise (non Disney - gasp) we had a a day at sea following our last port of call (Cozumel headed to New Orleans). We woudl have preferred to skip that day at sea.
For us, all the fun of teh cruise was past (and we do love sea days) and we were ready to get back to our daughter and dogs.

So, I guess it's a matter of perspective. Of course, our cruise was 6 days and not a short 4, so maybe a 4 day cruise woudl be better with a final day at sea.
