I'm a volunteeer with a greyhound resuce group and this is the worst case of abuse I've heard of in a while.

At Ebro, a track in Florida, a number of greyhounds have been found dead and near death. We've been told that the ones near death had their necks duct taped. Presumably to inhibit their ability to breathe.

We've heard today that some dead dogs were found under a nearby bridge.

The link below will take you to another site that has photos of the abused greyhounds as well as more information. If you do click it, the photos are hard to look at. They break my heart. :sad1:

If you're so inclined, here's a petition you can sign.

thank you for all that you do!

I really wish they would outlaw racing!!!

we were looking into rescuing a greyhound, but ended up with a greyhound mix. We have been told his personality is all greyhound - and he is the sweetest, easiest, "couch potato" we have ever seen!!!!

ETA: signed the petition, but can't bear to follow the link to the pictures.

:wizard:

I agree with wishing it was outlawed. These people should be prosecuted, but so many don't take animal abuse as being important. BURNS ME UP!!!

I signed the petition as well. I think it is horrible to use animals in this way. I hate horse racing as well.

We just had to put our Grey down due to cancer. I miss him soooo much! Not sure I'm ready yet for another, but they are awesome dogs!

If I can speak for the greyhounds, thank-you! :grouphug:

I've heard some awful stories, stories that I will never repeat because of the horror. It just makes me cry that anyone could abuse an animal. :sad1:

If you've ever met a greyhound, except for the few minutes a day they have that great burst of energy, they are exactly like pansmermaidzlagoon said, couch potatoes. It's just one of the funniest things. They zoom around really fast for 5 - 10 minutes and then the rest of the day they sleep. :rotfl:

All total I've adopted 2, took over as owner of 1 (she had been adopted but the owners couldn't keep her) and fostered 5.

Here's a picture of "Daddy's Girl".

That's her name from the track. What's funny is that she was supposed to come to us as a foster but DH fell in love with her right away so she never was a foster. We adopted her and renamed her Annie. Even funnier is that's DH favorite chair that she's lounging in! :lmao:

I signed, I can't look at the pictures, they will haunt me for months. I love Greyhounds. I had a friend that had one, such a sweet gentle dog.

Our friends have a recused greyhound that is completely blind. Her owner did not treat her eye infection.

It is so heartbreaking to see these wonderful dogs mistreated so badly.

I can't look at the pictures. Sorry. It is just too heartbreaking. What I don't get is if you want to get rid of dogs there are humane methods of euthanasia. Why torture them? What kind of sick mind even thinks of duct taping a dog's neck?

I signed for all the greyhounds waiting for Racing to End and to find their forever homes. These are the best dogs ever mine is 12 now and I adopted her at 4 1/2. She raced in Naples Florida and luckily wasn't shipped to a breeding farm. This is a cruel industry! sorry my picture is so big ;)

We lost my grey, Janky, ths year. She would have been 12 years old but had developed a MASSIVE tumor in her jaw. She lasted about a year before the tumor made impossible to eat. The very day she could no longer eat was the day we put her to sleep. We owned her (or rather, she owned US) for a little over 8 years. She raced in NH at a track called Seabrook and "retired" just shy of the mandatory 5 year mark.

She was the light of our lives and I miss her every day.

I have 4 greyhounds and have lost 2 over the years. I used to be an adoption coordinator in Charleston for Greyhound Crossroads. They are the sweetest animals. This story sickens me.

Run free, babies...

Wow! Must be some kind of greyhound political agenda involved. I've been away from Greytalk ( board for owners of retired racers ) for a few weeks. After reading this story, I went over to post if there were plans in place for the surviving dogs. The thread was immediately deleted and I was suspended for a week. Just love when politics overvshadows what's important.

Yes, I am aware of this story. Just sickening.

I have two retired racing greyhounds snuggling at my feet right now. I have two other glorious greyhounds in my heart and memory. They are the sweetest dogs ever. We lost one to hemangiosarcoma and the other (the 10 year old foster dog with huge medical problems that stayed forever) to old age at 13. I miss and mourn them both.

To the PP, I have not checked Greytalk recently, although I am a member and supporter. I have usually posted there on Heath and Medical and Training. However, it gets too political for me, and I don't like that.

I just love the dogs.

I don't think they like to admit it but I think most of them are pro-racing :confused3 Someone I know got booted off for posting what she thought of this story too. I use to go on that forum but not so much at all anymore. I just like to check the Greyhound merchandise section :) There is a group taking donations to help if you want info on that just pm me.

Unbelievable....:sad2:

In our search for a dog 4 years ago - we researched greys. Opted not to pursue a grey, , since I was very concerned about one leaving my yard - as a fence is not great option for us. :sad2:

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the breed! The are such sweeties. They all have such soft fur.
