Why have our standards lowered?

One of our local McDonalds put in a second lane at the drive-thru, now they are twice as slow and they still forget the straws. Have you ever tried to drink a milkshake with out a straw??

No...but we have gotten a chicken nugget kids meal with 2 orders of fries in it and no nuggets.

Then again--that could have been Wendy's.

Our local McD's motto: Not your way--not right away...order it as is off the menu or we get confused.

While I completely agree with your list, I don't think it is only the young people who act this way.

And what is said--it gets flipped around (especially on a disney board when someone gets poor service) and it becomes the justification of..."Well what did you expect when you went where they make only $1.23 an hour."

I don't know when "good manners" which is what good customer service is about for the most part..became a technical skill.

Personally, what they make has no bearing on it for me. They were hired to do a job that entalils customer service and if you don't like the pay, work somewhere else.

A few weeks ago I went to McD's for my kids- dd wanted the Little pet shop toys...

Well we go to drive through and I order 2 Mighty kids Chicken nugget meals both for girls one with chocolate milk and the other with a coke.

I'm asked to repeat my order so I do- I'm speaking slowly, have my radio off too

She repeats the order back with hamburgers and wrong drinks- I say no and try again saying exactly what I did the first time.

She gets the meal order right but the drinks wrong- by this time I'm assuming she has a bad speaker on her end and just can't hear me- so I raise my voice and speak very slowly and I get...

"Uh can you NOT scream in my ear" said with much attitude

I responded- "Sure if you could hear the first time. And can you please have your manager come to the window for me when I drive around"

I explained what happened to the manager and she was very apologetic- and I told her I'm not sure what is wrong but really I believe that girl needs to work in mopping the floors or something until she can appreciate doing customer service. The manager pulled the girl off the drive through while I was there.

Of course when we get to the food window- they are "out of BBQ sauce, out of the kids cups, and out of the toy my dd wanted..."

I have a rule- I NEVER leave the window of any drive through until I check each and every package to make sure the food is what I want and how I order it. I have received attitude for not pulling up when they are busy- and I just said- if I could trust you to make sure the order was right I wouldn't have to do this- and usually are then asking for something missing...

DH hates to go to tacobell because they never get the order right- and he isn't always sure what the things are that the kids are asking for.

We don't usually have a problem with our Burger King or Wendy's and the only problem I've had with Sonic is that they put cherry syrup and vanilla syrup in my Dr Pepper when I only wanted Vanilla...

Absolutely--I agree...customer service has no price (though butt kissing requires more money :rotfl2: ).

It isnt a technical skill for pete's sake.

But it sometimes appears as a defense for behavior....sometimes for Disney...and often for Wal-mart. It makes me just :sad2: .

Chick-Fil-A is the only fast food place I can think of where you get consistently good food and good service.

Most other places, quite frankly, stink in every way!

I agree. I did the same type of job for $2.65, which was minimum wage at the time, and I was polite to customers.

Our Burger King is hands down the worst fast food place I've ever been to. Slow as snails (walk-in or drive-through), orders are often wrong, and this is the only fast-food place I've seen that has closed the drive through on several occasions due to "staffing shortages."

But the worst thing, and the reason I won't go there anymore, is that they try to cheat the timer put in place to evaluate their efficiency. The person at the window explained to me (honestly, not only are they cheating the system, they're dumb enough to exaplin it to their customers). There is a timer at the second window where you get your food. Obviously, the goal is to have people there for as little time as possible. They don't do well on that metric (big surprise). So, they ask you to wait at the first window until your food is ready, no matter how long it takes. Then, once your complete order is ready, the 2nd window person will tell the 1st window person to wave you up. You get everything and are only at the 2nd window a few moments, even if you do ask for salt or whatnot.

Of course, by the time he was done explaining it to me my food was ready, but if it hadn't been I would have moved up to the second window before they "told" me to because I won't be a part of cheating their KPMs. I won't go back.

The McDonald's in our town, on the other hand, is great...very quick, everything is right, always include straws for the milks (WHY do most fast-food places assume that drinking out of a milk carton/jug without a straw in the car is a good idea, expecially for little kids?), and they even toss in the little cookie packs in the Happy Meals.

sorry - double post - and this time I know I only hit the button once, LOL!

(OK, now where's that little smashing the computer smilie?)

I agree. I've always encountered friendly people at Chick-Fil-A, and I don't think I've ever had an order messed up there. On top of that, their restaurants are generally much cleaner than other fast food places in our area. We frequent Chick-Fil-A more often than all of the other fast food places because we like the food and service.

Food service has gone downhill a lot since I was working in it. We had to say certain things and at all times smile and be curteous and THE COSTOMER IS ALWAYS RIGHT was the motto. Now there were some costomers that were total PITA's but if you smile and be nice to people even if they are in a bad mood or whatever they usually return in kind after a few minutes.

I was not prepared for a post on a message board. You might think I'd have been ready for this event, but I'm not.

Please pull forward and I'll reply when I'm good and ready. No, you can't have your drink first. Please pull forward and I'll bring your drink out with the reply.

I have a student who just started as a server at Olive Garden. He's a senior in high school. I overhear him telling his friends how some of the customers don't show him respect...I have to laugh. There is this whole attitude among some that the only people who deserve respect are those who earn it....He really believes that people should be grateful that he is their server and that they should thank him for serving them....don't get me wrong, I am often VERY nice and kind to the wait staff of any sit down eatery, but his attitude is totally opposite of what I would think it should be...unfortunately, most of his buddies think he's right.

When we cruised, it occurred to us that there weren't a lot of Americans working in the dining rooms, and really I don't think that I could name very many college age kids who could be that charming, respectful and gracious to man a ship of that size.

Whats sad is that it breeches off into bigger business. I was at the bank the other day just waiting to deposit a check and there was this older man in front of me. Seems THE BANK had run his small 9.00 check for 900.00. Well of course his checks were bouncing and his entire account was messed up horribly (all the bank charges, all the returned check charges etc....) Well like I said this was a older man and the poor thing was confused and just at his wits end.

What made me so mad is that the bank managers were acting like HE WAS ANNOYING THEM and wasting THEIR time getting his account THAT THEY MESSED UP fixed.

I would have thought if something like that happened the bank would do anything and everything they could to make this man happy and fix his account. Really sad.
This recently happened to us. Toyota took our car payment twice. They were so rude and never once admitted they took it twice. The entire time she said well you must have paid twice, no I use epay...well then you must have screwed up doing that....:sad2:

Things bounced and I got charged overdraft fees, that had to eat because Toyota couldn't care less.
