Why Guns?

Passion is one thing, violence another. When many people become defensive concerning a cause, they have the tendency to become violent. So yeah, when people become violent towards others because they don't hold the same opinions, I wonder. I wonder why they think they have the right to threaten other people. I wonder why so many people think it's ok to own handguns. I wonder why they think it's ok to use the it's my right excuse, so they can use said handgun against another person for harm(not tyranny or revolution). Or am I mistaken? Are all of you just revolutionaries ready to take up arms for our country? I wonder why criminals have such easy access and citizens cry and complain about all the gun violence and crime in our Country and yet don't want to try to solve it, because they are afraid of losing a right. I wonder if any one of you who advocate owning a handgun has known someone killed or injured by a handgun?

I never said let the government have complete control. If the voters, the people decide legalized handgun ownership is a mistake and change the laws, that isn't tyranny. It's the fact that you are so opposed to the idea, that you call it such.

I know someone who was killed by a person USING a handgun (handguns don't kill people). Right before our senior year started, a friend of mine was shot and killed by her crazy, stalker ex-boyfriend.

A family member was held at gunpoint and raped. How did she deal with it? She bought a gun and learned to use it.

Leaving the rest of yout tyrade aside and paraphrasing your own words from above...Would you agree that 'If the voters, the people decide "freedom of the press" is a mistake and change the laws, that isn't tyranny.'?
:confused3

Hmmm...I'm starting to see your point. Maybe they should make handguns as illegal as say Marijuana. Yeah....I'm sure then citizens wouldn't cry and complain about how easy it seems for people who are willing to break the law to get a handgun. Make getting a gun as hard/illegal as it is to say get pot in your average high school! :thumbsup2

Gun problem solved!!!

let's ban certain words
:upsidedow

Don't you just hate it when people take your quotes out of context? See, if you do not quote a person's entire post, then subsequent readers, reading only the 'abridged' version, get an entirely mistaken idea concerning what the original poster actually wrote.

So here we have a poster, Christopher Robin, who abridged the heck out of my post (see my original post above), thus making me say something I did not say, and then Robin 'argued' against what (I didn't) state.

By the way: I heavily abridged robin's post. Robin is not called for certain words being banned.

1) There has been no violence, not sure what you are talking about there.
2) Yes, I think you are mistaken. It is our right to bear arms.
3) We do have the right to use deadly force against those who are harming us, which is the only way people have described using a gun against others.
4) Most people I know are definitely willing to take up arms for our country
5) Criminals do not have access to guns because of the second amendment. They will be armed no matter what laws are passed.
6) I don't know anyone who doesn't want the issue of gun violence solved. It's obviously not as easy as 'take away the right to bear arms'.
7) I personally know of one person who was killed by a handgun, he used it on himself. I don't know anyone who had an accidental incident with a handgun, that resulted in injury.
8) Many people who defend the right to bear arms are fine with certain restrictions. None of them are ok with an outright ban. The total restriction of one of our constitutionally protected rights is absolutely tyranny, IMHO. Yep.

1) .

8.

Let me just say first that i support the right to bear arms with restrictions..I'd just like to see the laws that already exist better regulated..

When we lived in Ca I saw a life flight helicopter fly over our neighborhood...It ended up going a couple streets down..I child was visiting his grandparents, got a hold of one of their guns and shot and killed himself accidentally...He was 9..Horrible story.

And people wonder why people defend the right to bear arms with such passion...because so many are willing to give that right up. I'm not willing to give up any of our rights. Not the ones I don't use (2nd amendment), not the ones I use every day.

But you don't have a problem with the government tapping our phones without a warrant, right? Or locking up American citizens without charging them with a crime? Or torturing information out of them?

But the right to own slaves was NOT written into the Constitution or the Bill of Rights, so the majority of them did not consider it a God given right. They did consider having the right to defend yourself against unlawful attack from anyone, including your own government, to be one.

1) It most assuredly was included in that blacks were only counted as 2/3rds of a human being.
2) Could you please point out the part of the second amendment that speaks to defending yourself against "unlawful attack from anyone"? They'd just escaped the tyranny of King George, and were worried about the citizens' right to protect themselves from government intrusion, not from muggers on the street.

Hmmm...I'm starting to see your point. Maybe they should make handguns as illegal as say Marijuana. It takes a lot of technical know-how to make a gun. It takes a few seeds, some water, and a black light to grow pot. Any idiot can do it. Your analogy doesn't hold up. If it did, you would be able to say that the British (for example) have a gun problem in their country. They don't.

Never said they were going to making them in their garage. I'm guessing there are a lot of guns made in other countries. But thanks anyway. Are all of our drugs home grown?

Was actually agreeing with you. Was being operative.

Thanks, but the few words you quoted simply skewed my reasoning all out of my original intent, and subsequent readers may not understand that I do not hold those positions at all. Plus, more people may start 'quoting' your abridged quotes, with my name attached.

I do not know what 'operative' means in the context you have used it.

Gee, yes I do have a problem with the above. Thanks for allowing me the opportunity to speak for myself, without jumping to conclusions about what I think is right and wrong.

Marijuana? Yes, most of it is homegrown, not imported.

What, you mean the Bush administration hasn't tightened our border security enough to stop gun runners from crossing into the country from Mexico (can't be Canada, they already have a private ban of sorts). :lmao:

Sorry. As a Republican and frequenter of the Conservative thread, I made the assumption. My apologies.

No problem.

Just a clarification: I am a republican but I don't frequent the conservative thread. Maybe you are thinking of someone else?

Um...you know way too much about the undead. I'm just saying.

:smokin: I scored really high on the Zombie test. I even said that I would kill a friend or family member if they became infected. :rotfl: Hey, once you turn zombie there ain't no turning back. ;)

So your alarm system wakes you up - then what do you do? Home invasion burglars, rapists and other twisted people can accomplish a lot before help arrives. This is why we own a gun.
\

Right, I'm on the gun side.
When woken I can prepare to meet the intruder on my terms. Before any damage is done. Before He/She is leaning over my bed while I sleep!

Mikeeee

I own a gun and so does my husband. We have a concealed handgun permit so we are legal. I carry it for my personal protection, because I choose not to rely on anyone else to protect me.

The people who cause these horrible shootings would find a gun, legal or not, if they really wanted one.
