why God why????

OK, I'm feeling better now..the meteorologist said that they're only expecting 1-2inches. We just had that a few days ago, so I'm Ok! :rotfl: I just hated missing "the big one"!:rotfl:

About 15 years ago, we got over a foot of snow in our area. That's the most snow I've ever seen. Ususally just an inch or two if any.

I absolutely could NOT stand to live in Minnesota, Goofydiane. I couldn't take that cold!!! -7 :scared1: Heck, when it drops below freezing around here, I'm puttin' on layers!

We're in central NC, in a no-snow zone. Every time there is any snow, every county surrounding us gets snow and we get NOTHING. My DS is 4 and he has never played in snow. His school was on a 2 hour delay and he woke up at 6 am to play in the snow. We had NOTHING. They say we may get 1-3 inches today. The grocery stores are packed, everyone is buying milk and bread, to prepare for being "snowed in". Snow is a welcome surprise in NC, not a long lasting burden. If it snows today, it will be long gone by Monday morning.

We are in the eastern part of NC, near Wilmington. My kids came home yesterday so excited because they were told the forecast was snow this weekend. I looked this morning and it seems we are in the "rain" part of the forecast. They will be disappointed. I think the last good snow we had was back in 2000 or so. I don't even try to drive in it, I make dh who grew up in PA drive me when we have snow. I am a southern girl, snow is fun for a minute for me, the hassle lasts longer than I want! We get barely an inch or a little bit of freezing rain and the whole area shuts down because we can't drive a lick in it.

Don't envy you northerners at all! I lived in Glens Falls NY for one year when I was 20 and that was enough for me. When the snow drifts are bigger than I am tall its too much. Don't mind a little snow here and there for the kiddo's but I can do without!

Your right, this is SO not fair!

I live on the snowbelt, near the snow capital... Syracuse, NY, and now I'm feeling guilty that not everyone uses, WIND CHILL FACTOR and LAKE EFFECT SNOW as part of their daily vocabulary! :lmao:

Seriously, I lived down south for a few years and I would have wanted my children to experience snow, (once in a great while) too.

Enjoy your trip and I'll see what I can do to shift the wind your way.

P.S. - When we were at Disney in April 2007, there was a major snow storm here. We watched our local mayor on the national news. We were glad we beat the storm, flew out on Friday the 13TH, with no problems, and it was almost gone when we returned on the 23rd.

LOL I forgot to mention the crowded grocery stores as one of the other posters mentioned. Like I said, I think our northern neighbors would be so amused to watch everyone hording bread, milk and gas like it's going to run out tomorow. My family has never done the whole run to the grocery store thing but you wouldn't believe how many people do. I don't understand the desperate need for bread and milk. Why just those two things??? :confused3 I'd be willing to bet there's not a loaf of bread or a gallon of milk left on the shelves right now. I seriously doubt we have a blizzard and get snowed in. But if we do I guess everyone can enjoy bread and milk!

Wow, I wish I could appreciate snow the way you people who don't get it very often do. We have had snow on the ground since the beginning of December and believe me it does get very old! Even my daughter gets sick of it. We just got a couple more inches the other day and more to come this weekend. Wish I could send it south to someone who would enjoy it!

I agree. We haven't had that much this year, but I am still sick of it. I told DH yesterday I think the dog even has seasonal affect disorder!

I'm a southern girl (NC) who hates snow! Well, maybe I don't "hate" it, but I certainly don't like it. I used to get excited about it when I was a kid, but it's too much of a hassle around here now. Everything shuts down, that is, after everyone has bought all the milk and bread around here. There are accidents all over the place. The local news takes over the TV programming all day to televise the "Winter Storm". I'll take sunshine and 80 degrees any day!:sunny:

Snow in NC?? :rotfl: :rotfl:

Doubt it.. I know they are calling for it but I've live here all my life and it rarely happens.. I really wish for snow, SO BAD! It used to know when I was a kid every year, but not anymore.

I would go ahead and do what you were gonna do. If it does snow, you will be leaving so it doesn't matter!!! :goodvibes :goodvibes

There is a light dusting at my house, but definetly not as much as they expected in my area. My kids are bummed. Hopefully some more will fall tonight.

It has snowed for more than 5 hours here and there's not a thing on the ground! It's just too warm for it to stick. It is supposed to freeze over tonight, so we may have a mess tomorrow morning.

Yeah, no offence, but get over it! I'm from the Jersey shore, and we see plenty of snow (not as much as some thank goodness) and it stinks! First, you have to get out at the butt-crack of dawn and shovel everything or we get a fine. Then you have to turn your car on, and come inside and TRY to regain the feeling in your limbs. Then, after the car has been on about 15 minutes, you go BACK outside to scrap everything, which takes another 15 minutes. Then, if you live on a small side street that NEVER GETS PLOWED or salted, you have to go like 5 miles an hour to get off the street which takes like 5 minutes! Then you get on the parkway, and there are all these ********* that don't feel the need to get the snow off the roof of their car, and at 70 mph, it FLYS OFF and hits your car smack in the windshield. So if you windshield doesn't just shatter on impact, you have to deal with getting this junk off so you can see and not get into an accident. Yeah, snow is GREAT! Sorry for being so synical, but SNOW STINKS!

Amen! I couldn't have said it better! Be careful getting to the airport and have a fantastic trip in the warmth of the FL sun!! :goodvibes

Update on my last post... DS4 has finally seen snow. We rode up to Cary yesterday afternoon and when we came out of Best Buy it was snowing beautifully. As we headed toward REI, my son was giddy with excitement about the snow and a passerby said to him, "you call this snow, this is nothing, you North Carolinians know nothing about snow". Well thank you Mr. Northener for trying to take some joy away from a child. No it wasn't much, but to a kid who has never seen snow, it was amazing.

It was disapointing here too. I've come to realize that the only time we ever get a good snow is when the weathermen aren't expecting it. If it's forecast and talked up, it almost never happens and if it does it doesn't stick. Oh, well at least we got the rain which is a blessing as much as we need it.

Yes, snow is so uncommon here in central NC that it is something we wouldn't want to leave. I dream of 6-8 inches, so my DS13 can actually sled or snowboard a little bit before he outgrows the whole thing. We had 23 inches in either 1999 or 2000, and I had to shovel for the first time to get the mailman to deliver the mail. It was not fun, so I understand that northerners get tired of it quickly. But still, it is so much fun for both the adults and kids who see it so rarely.

We got 1.5 inches in Hillsborough and I am off to take some pictures before church. Happy slushing everyone!

Hey Smylie1 I know your probably at the world right now just wanted say hello we're almost neighbors!! I live in Caldwell county and work in Burke County! Nice to see someone from "home" on here!!
:goodvibes

Hey Smylie!
We're in Greenville, NC so I totally understand. Snow is such a rarity that you hate to miss out on it. I'm sure people from further north think we're nuts. If they could just see all of us adults running out to play in it with the kids. I go sledding in the back of our neighborhood everytime we get lucky enough to get any. But If we get any this time I'll be stuck at work all day. :sad1: Anyway at least you're missing it for a wonderful reason! Have a good trip.

Hi there neighbors! We live in Williamston, NC (about 30 minutes or so from Greenville, NC and well about 5 hours from Charlotte, NC). My DD was literally crying because we didn't get any snow! I'm not a big fan of snow either (it's beautiful falling, but so messy afterwards) but I really hated it for her! I told her that winter wasn't over yet and we just have to be hopeful that it will really snow this year before winter is over! I really do empathize with all of the other posters who do get snow so frequently.

haha i know how the OP feels! i am a snow lover as well! i HATE it when i miss it!
but we live in MN so we see it still right there when we get back.

Oh, I would be disappointed too! I completely understand. It snowed Wednesday and Saturday here in Atlanta and it was a such a treat for the kids. It had been four years since we had snow that actually stayed on the ground for a day. It was a nice treat for me too, even though I grew up with lots of snow in the winter.

The nice thing for us is that one day later there is a little snow left on the grass, but I actually just finished an outdoor tennis match! It was cold (about 35 deg) but sunny so not too bad. I can understand those who dislike the snow. My parents evenutally got so sick of it they moved our family to FL.

Try not to feel too bad about it - are you close to any ski areas? You can alwasy go to the snow if it does not come to you again for a while. :)
