Why get so worked up?

Holy moly. Getting up in arms because of junk food. Who'd a thunk it. I absolutely love junk food of all kind but to get up in arms about whether I have access to it either in real life or within the money machine known as Disney? Seriously?

I pick my battles very carefully. Whether I have the option to eat my own body weight in fried food is not even on the radar of my list of life's troubles.

Ahh...but what if it comes from a crock pot? ;)

I don't think I've ever eaten a chicken strip at WDW so I wouldn't know the difference if I finally decided to order one while on an upcoming trip. I guess I don't see getting all freaked out over a minor change or changing my vacation plans because of it. I'm not travelling across the country for a chicken strip or a hot dog bun. It seems like there are still plenty of unhealthy foods left to choose from.

Frankly, I'm always excited to see something healthier on the menu--while I do pig out at WDW, I get extremely tired of french fries after about my second serving.

I couldn't agree more with the OP. What is the big deal? Just work around it. If you have a picky kid, well then, teach them to broaden their food options or budget for a car to go off-site. My kid's (ages 4 and 5) favorite foods are grilled salmon and broccoli, shrimp fajitas, pasta with clam sauce, sushi and tofu. I am not blasting Disney for not offering sushi or salmon on the kids menu even though my guys would eat it every single day if I let them. The same with broccoli. I am working around it by not doing the DDP so I can order for them from the adult menu and get them things I know they will like. Thank goodness they don't serve white bread...my kids have never had it and would probably think it was cookies!

If I had to complain about the DDP this would be my complaint. The majority of the time DD4 would eat off of our plates because she LIKES "adult" foods. When we are at home she doesn't eat chicken nuggets very often, or even fish sticks. She eats what we do. Her favorite meal was when we had calamari at Narcoosee's. She ate the majority of them. I wish there was a way to get a child's portion of some of the adult choices, she would have certainly appreciated that food more.

I'm hoping i don't cause more trouble BUT i've an opposite thread i just began before reading this one. My thought was how to eat healthy at WDW. I've since fast scanned this thread and people are suggesting that healthy is being forced on people. I've seen the lists earlier but can someone please tell me what the healthy choices are. I don't think i could do fast food as such.

We're adults so kids are not the issue. Just to eat well where possible in the park and at dinner

I don't k now....I jus thonestly don't see the point in getting worked up about this. Disney isn't going to stop selling Mickey ice cream bars or churros anytime soon just b/c they decided to make chicken nuggets and wheat buns instead of strips and white.

I guess I have a different perspective. I appreciate the responses saying that Disney should offer a real choice- white bread or wheat bread (this case specifically)- but then what happens to service? The option will end up making service take longer (not much, but a little for each customer), which will make the lines longer, and will also make people complain b/c they don't want to wait forever for a hot dog. The longer time on each customer won't be much, but it could easily add up to longer times when there are 30+ customers in line somewhere...

If I were ordering it, and I didn't like the bun, I just wo uldn't eat the bun. Or, who knows, try asking for white bread- they may still have it? But if it came down to a bun I didn't like, I'd just not eat it and thoroughly enjoy my very not-so-healthy hot dog.

Sorry:goodvibes if I offend.... I am not worked up with the changes though...my dd4 is used to the " you eat what I make thing" so I am not worried she'll starve or anything. This thread is getting way out of control.I just think that though this is a public forum, ( and everyone has an opinion)there is still such a thing as being respectful despite personal opinions, and there really is not a reason to be mean, malicious or rude.:hippie:

 No worries about being rude or offending. This is a new user, created probably yesterday, who made exactly two posts. One got the other thread like this closed. Let's hope that this nice discussion doesn't get closed because of one person who wants to create drama and stir the pot.

ITA. This user was created yesterday, and are the only two posts made by this poster.

Too bad some cannot respect that others have differing opinion or cannot state their opinions without being rude and offensive.

hope this gets back on track. Sorry for the interuption of your regularly scheduled thread :thumbsup2

I haven't read the whole thread, just the first two pages so forgive me if I repeat anything. I'd like to throw my two cents in here.

I think people get worked up first of all because favorites are being changed. Disney is a favorite, very special place to many people. Certain food spark memories and add to the magic of the vacation. When you take them away, or alter them, you take some of the magic, too. That gets people worked up.

Secondly, because the changes are not good. From what I am hearing, they're pretty gross and people don't like them. If the new wheat hot dog buns tasted great and had the added benefit of being good for you you'd hear a lot less complaining.

Thirdly, just my personal feelings here, I don't like the whole Big Brother aspect of it. It's Food Police and it robs us of free thinking. I don't like that kind of control in any aspect of my life. If people want to overeat and fill up on unhealthy foods, why the heck should anyone else care? What blows my mind is how many people think they should have a voice in how others live their lives. It seriously blows my mind.

I think adding healthy choices is a great idea. People who want to eat healthy while on vacation should not be forced to eat greasy hamburgers and fries anymore than someone who wants the burger and fries should be forced to eat a tofu dog on a whole grain bun. Choices should be offered to everyone. It's the total change, with no options, that gets people peeved.

I don't want someone else deciding me what's good for me and what's not and then forcing me to live the way they decide is best. That bugs the crap out of me. I'm very glad to see I'm not alone.

Everyone has a right to complain and to vent their frustrations. This is a message board and sharing opinions is what it's all about.:goodvibes Goodness knows I love sharing mine :rotfl:

I think some of the frustration about the complaints is that we're only complaining about the idea of the change. Those complaining haven't actually tried the food yet to decide if they like it or not.

The chicken strips caused a major uproar. Everyone thought that the new nuggets were like McDonald's. Then a few people posted that they're just like the old strips - just a bit smaller and the portion size is smaller.

People are saying that Disney is forcing people to eat healthy when they want to eat junk. That doesn't make sense to me. The change in nuggets had nothing to do with health. Face it, deep fried chicken is never good for you - no matter if it's white meat and in a smaller portion. I believe the with the nugget change Disney may want us to believe it's about health, but in my opinion it's about cost. It costs Disney less to serve a smaller portion.

There is only one change that anyone is forced to deal with and that is wheat buns. (No tofu dogs or veggie burgers yet - despite some reports of such ;) :) )

A few people last month said that they were crumbly. There is a bun thread about Casey's on this forum right now where there are two reports of people who were there recently. They said...

Link to Thread

Must be new. I had a Casey's dog on the 7th of Feb and it was nice, soft and non-crumbly.

And I hope to get another in May.

and

We were there last week and ate there 2 times. The buns are wheat but soft and not dark enough that my kids could tell. They really are yummy and the difference is not noticeable. Keep in mind that Casey's is my favorite restaurant in all of WDW and if something was broke, I would definitely complain! I had nothing to complain about, believe me!

So again, maybe there was a problem with the first buns, but it's since been corrected (from the sound of it). If the buns taste the same, have the same consistency, etc., then I don't see a problem with the new buns.

I also don't see how we sitting here today can say that it's a horrible change when we haven't tried them yet. Maybe they do taste good.

If I go in a few weeks and the buns are horrible, then I will be upset that the buns are horrible. I don't care if they're wheat or white - I just care that they taste good and compliment my dog (and the toppings I put on my dog)

I do agree though, I think a lot of the venting has to do more with memories than the actual changes. I would also guess that Disney changes something every year, and every year someone has to adjust their frame of reference and find another reason to love Disney.

I know, right?! This thread kept rolling to the top of my User CP so I popped back in and it seems the only people who are actively participating now are the people who were complaining about us complaining. :upsidedow

I have no problem with complaining! Complain away. I may be complaining up a storm once I try the dreaded wheat buns in a few days!

I only want to keep perspective on the situation. Some (and not you, you've been a delight to read) make it sound like it's all horrible and all tofu and veggies and wheat and whole grain. No menus carry anything that can even remotely be considered junk food and when in Disney we're being held to a healthy regime for the length of stay. I don't mind the complaints that aren't sensationalism. Sensationalism spawns more 20+ page threads of rumors.

By all means - complain about the wheat buns!! I truly hope that everyone complaining is wrong and they are delicious - for everyone's sakes!! 'Cause it's going to be ugly when I get back if I can't enjoy a dog at Casey's!!!:rotfl:

I'm REALLY not looking forward to wheat buns. :headache: Hot dog on a wheat bun sounds like an oxymoron to me. :lmao:

Hey I eat wheat bread at home exclusively and have the whitest white buns for my dogs. I hear you. I am clinging to the people saying that they were soft and they couldn't tell that they were wheat.

I am hoping that if a 5 year old can't tell (and they're masters at discerning food in an instant), then I won't mind either.

Trust me - this thread is coming back to life if they're horrible on March 23rd (Our first day in the MK) :lmao:

I'll be leading the charge for the white hot dog bun exchange either here or on the budget board.
