DOES ANYONE KNOW WHY DCA CHOSE TO OPEN ON A THURSDAY?

I'm not sure; I tried to see if the date had any special significance, but the only thing I found related to Disney was that it's the date 'Monkeys, Go Home' was released in 1967...I don't seem to recall that being a particularly 'California Adventure'-ish film!
