Howdy to those of you who have come to this thread to check out the info on DVC...which is why I showed up initially. As the PP stated there was a lot of misinformation given in the beginning of this thread.
DH and I were Value vacationers until the Summer of 2009, when due to incentives talked about on the DVC forum here, we purchased 210 points at AKV. At that time we purchased our points for $93 per point. We are in our 40s with no children and go to Disney every year for at least 9 nights. Yes, we are addicted to the place.
Ok, so we are a bit older, no kids, and stay value...we purchased direct from Disney becasue I am emotional and wanted to own a piece of Disney right then...DH not so much but alas he supported my habit and we bought in. We are both professionals, have no real cc debt, own a nice home and each have a car. Because our cash is tied up into investments we purchased direct from Disney, used a 10 year loan at 10.75%, and paid 10% down as requested on our Disney Visa. So yeah we got the reward points for that and will use our reward dollars for the trip in Dec.
We now have a second mortgage that costs about $237 each month and then our MF for AKV are about $80 per month. Sorta like buying a small car, but this will last a lot longer. Many people golf, hunt and fish, own a boat, rolex or Corvette. We own at Disney. It was how we choose to spend our vacation money. Will we go to Vegas and NYC for trips, sure, DVC has nothing to do with that.
So I have gone from Pop to AKV which I never really thought we could or would pay cash to stay in. We bought direct and got 2008 points and combined them for a trip last year and this year. Our 2 SV studios at AKV would have cost $7000 cash, but there has already been talk about the financial benefits of DVC. With our 2 SV studios this Dec, we are up to $14000 since we are staying another 9 nights. Of course our first night will be a our beloved Pop, becasue it does have personality and we are arriving in the evening.
I am not posting for bashers, lovers or DVC members...just my age, with similar circumstances that are looking into DVC. It is hard to get a real take on it when your not sure about the cost and you can't get that info unless you talk to a Guide....I didn't want that hassle either. So this is for those of you who are interested, thought you could get some info out of this thread, and wanted to know about the monthly cost for an average contract. I really hope the thread has helped some of you and you will tak eht etime to read up on DVC at our forums on this site..that is how I got the truth and found out my info that finally got me in touch with a Guide. Pixie dust to all and enjoy your vacations with family where ever they are!!
