Why Don't We Receive Minutes?

I'm just curious why DVC never provides minutes or even a recap of the Member Meetings. There has been quite a bit of news coming out of these meetings -- adding the slide, adding HDTV, no rebate on taxes at BWV but a slight increase, etc. -- that we would not know anything about if it weren't for the goodness of folks who share what they heard. Rather than rumor, I wish DVC would at least post a highlights page on the web site. Has anyone ever asked and/or received an answer as to why they don't share the minutes? Is it just so they can keep control over what is released by never having anything "in writing"?

Thats a very good question Pam. How hard would it be to post the "minutes" from every Resorts Annual meeting on the DVC website(that is so secret ).

I guess maybe it is the same reason guides are NOT allowed to communicate via e-mail also.

Probably because uninformed members complain less.

Minutes should be posted on the website.

We went to the Wilderness Lodge meeting and until the official part of the meeting finished, it was all pretty unintresting. All of what was in the small leaflet we received through the post was gone over and explained - all though not in any great detail - no discussion at this point was allowed.

The interesting bit was the "second" half when the future was explained, what had been done repair wise and renewal wise and what was planned for the future.

The question and answer bit was also pretty good although maybe a bit tame.

I do agree that the second half should have been reported on the members page because I am pretty sure everyone is interested in the future of their vacation club especially members merchandise etc.

I agree also that they should post the minutes.

But I can assure you that if they did, they would be nowhere nearly as informative as, for example, Debbie's recount of the BWV meeting. The minutes would be word-smithed, and looked at by Disney lawyers until they would be basically useless.

While I agree it's a good idea, I don't think it would ever really provide much information other than announcements like the OKW pool or BWV unexpected dues increase of $.03 per point to cover low tax estimates.

I agree Pam! It sounds like they are pretty well scripted, so what would be the harm in at least providing the information through the web site or even Vacation Magic. At the very least, they could send the minutes along with one of the other mailings.

I suppose they feel they can announce the improtant things when they are necessary. I would imagine there will be a pool annoucement in Vacation Magic when they know the construction schedule.

Yep, and it will be about 6-10 months behind the information I get on this board, as usual!!

Wonder when they'll let the CM's in on this?

As indicated, I agree that there is no reason why they can't at least post the scripted part of the meeting...that part has already been through the lawyers and is not allowed to be interrupted by questions, as I understand it.

Granny, I think it is a control thing. I too get really tired of everything being reported too late. When we used to get the Mickey Monitor with the APs it was always far enough behind, that we were usually back from our Jan. trip before we got the information about what was going on when we were there!

Aren't the minutes of the meetings a legal record that members are entitled to received if they request a copy?? Can anyone answer this?

Last year's Disney annual shareholders' meeting was available on the web. It was audio only but very nice way for those shareholders who could not attend to connect.

It seems to me that they could do the same with DVC annual meetings on the DVC site. For the technology experts -- is that a difficult or expensive thing to do?

One of the first things they do at the annual meeting is accept the minutes from the previous year's meeting. However, my guess is the minutes are not very interesting because it probably only includes the formal part of the meeting, up to when it is adjourned. All the good stuff is after the formal meeting is adjourned. Member questions & answers are not part of the formal meeting.
