Why don't people make their ADR's online at 12:00 AM when they are 180 days away?

As I write this the Disney Reservations Center has closed for the evening, however their online reservation system for making ADR's is available 24 hours a day. So when it becomes time to make your ADR's when you are 180 days away from arriving at WDW, why don't you try to make them at 12:00 AM? At that time it's the next day and you are within the rules of when you can make your ADR's, so wouldn't you have the best chance of getting what you want and not waiting until the next morning?

If I understand correctly, the system "updates" for the next day at 6AM. That is when most peole start making their ADRs online.

Correct as the poster above says - until 6 AM it's not the "next day" for Dining reservations so it won't let you until that time.

You aren't 180 days away til disney says you are and thats at 6 am on your 180th day. Otherwise I'd stay up til midnight myself.

That's weird because I just put in August 18, 2011 which is the 2nd day of our trip to WDW and I could have made an ADR for dinner at Flying Fish Cafe or Kouzzina and it gave me two times I could choose from. So your saying it wouldn't have let me continue making the ADR, because nothing came on the screen which said the ADR system was closed for the evening.

Now this might be under a different system but last week when we made our reservations online for the Beach Club it was at 11:30 PM, which was an hour & a half after the Disney Reservation Center had closed. However it still let us make that reservation.

But if you tried to make a reservation tonight - 3/25, for anything beyond September 21, it won't let you until tomorrow.

After I posted my previous reply I realized that it was already within my 180 day mark, so that's why it worked after 10:00 PM.

exactly....about a month I tried the "stay up until midnight at make my ADRs at 12:01 with no success.

Besides, if the 12:01 trick worked it would be the main topic of every other ADR thread.

Another reason is perhaps the simplest - there are very, very few places at WDW where making a reservation on the first day the window opens is a necessity.

It changes at 6:00 am on the dot. Trust me, I've tried making them at 5:55 am, 5:56 am, 5:57 am, 5:58 am, and 5:59 am and they were a no-go.

Since it's confirmed that you can start making your ADR's online at 6:00 AM when you are 180 days out, to make things equal for those who like to call shouldn't the online system change at 7:00 AM? The reason I say that is because 7:00 AM is when the Disney Reservation Center opens each morning, so this way everyone can start making their ADR's at the same time. So does that make sense or is there not a difference in those who are online at 6:00 AM compared to those who like to call right away?

They open at 6am specifically to give online the advantage, to get more people to use that system as opposed to just calling in. A 1 hour advantage is nice and can make the difference on a few high demand places, but isn't nearly as crazy as a 7 hr advantage if they rolled over at midnight. (Also, if something is messed up, it's only a 1hr wait until phones open, rather than the same 7hr one with midnight).

What this does is free up CM time, so more fewer CMs will be tied up with simple reservations and can help the more complex issues faster (it may also affect staffing, as they'll need fewer CMs overall).

System rolls over at 6 AM eastern, not 12 am. And Cafeen's right. They don't want it equal. They want to cut down on the jam-packed phone lines they used to get.

I don't know if it still does it but the previous years the system did some backing up late at night (early am EST) and dates start dropping from the calendar.

I know when I used the online system it never opened up before 6am EST. Not sure what happened one time but it wouldn't open up the last date for me on my 180+10. I had to wait til 7am to call in. Much better to only have to wait an hour if something goes wrong.

Apparently it's open early today. I don't know exactly how early it opened though. I was playing around with it at 4:30CT (so 5:30ET). I was surprised when it accepted my resort reservation number and let me book all my ADRs for my Sept 24th-Oct 2nd trip at that time. I was expecting to have to wait until 6:00am. I got everything I wanted, except Kimono's. Do they not accept ADRs? I couldn't even get them to come up.
