why doguides ask for referal names

we have had two families ask us about DVC and ended up taking the tour while they were there. Both times they were asked who referred them and we ended up getting thank you letters from our guide. Is there any reason they track it or send the follow up letter?

Yes, because in many states the person who referred them will get a referral credit.

Yep, that is what we did....friends of ours own DVC and has talked to us in great length about the benefits and what not about owning. When we went last September we asked if they could refer us (read so much about referrals here, so I thought you had to have one) and they were so happy to do so. In return for us referring them, they got a credit towards, I believe but not sure, their Maintenance and Taxes. When I talked to her after our trip, she was so thankful towards us.

I would guess they ask for two reasons. They need to process the referrer thank you letter or gift and the gift amount probably comes off of their commission.
