Mickey Mouse, and all other cartoon animals, can only talk in their Cartoon World. In our world they can't talk because in our world NO animals can talk. Those are the rules of mother nature in this case.:thumbsup2

I love this explanation, but it gets blown out of the water when you go see a stage show like Mickey's Magic Show or the Playhouse Disney Live on Tour. :rotfl: :headache:

It'll still work, for awhile anyway, until they are old enough to figure out that the Cartoon World - Our world - mother nature story was just a load of bull. And that it's impossible for Mickey Mouse (or whatever character) to be in two places at the same time. But that realization will come a few years down the road.:goodvibes

Wow - i just told my kids it was because they aren't real and to stop crying about and suck it up. I also told them santa wasn't real either. Just kidding of course. I just thought this subject needed a man's interjection.

In reality they don't talk because you could never practically train people to do the voices like they do in the cartoons.

...and this is why kmbound is a dad and disney-super-mom really is a super mom!!:lmao:

would be hard to explain why mickey talks about his imaginations in Fantasmic...

I would say that Mickey and Friends are kids like you. They are really shy and dont like talking about loves to dance and move.

One year when waiting to get our picture taken with Mickey a CM told my little sister at the time that Mickey couldn't talk because he has to save his voice for his performances because animals only get a limited time to speak or something like that. It satisfied her.

When my oldest DS 8 was younger, around the age of 5, he actually asked me why, if they can't talk in our world, why can Mickey and everyone talk in Morning Madness? Now I'm on the spot. We're watching Morning Madness and he's waiting for an answer. What do I say?!?! So, I just said that "because they can't talk in our world, they have to record their voices in cartoon world, and then the same recording is played over and over again for every show. That's why your hear them saying the exact same stuff at every show." He just looked at me and said, "Ohhhhhhh!":goodvibes

He's never asked me about it since, and now that he's 8, I don't know if he's figured it all out or not. I'm not sure how old they get before they figure out all this stuff, like Santa Claus, the characters in the parks, the tooth fairy, ect.:confused3

A little different twist on Supe-Mom's answer . . . I told my daughter, 5 at the time, that "Disney Magic" helps the animals talk in movies/TV/ on stage so we can understand what they are saying. They ARE talking when you meet them at the park but we can't understand because there isn't time to do the magic, cause so many kids want to meet them.

It worked and luckily she didn't question why Captain Hook and Smeade had nothing to say when we met them- after all, they are people . . . (WDW 2006)

We are taking are first trip to DL in 13 days - we'll see what challenging questions come up this time . . . I'm sure my kids will want to know why Mickey has two houses!

There is a similar thread in the Walt Disney World Thread that beacme rather heated after I had discussed that the characters do talk in a new stage show in front of Cinderella's Castle in the MK in Florida. The technology is not far off where we might see them talk in the future.

As far as right now, I would make some of my favorite suggestions from the other thread. Explain to your daughter that...

The Characters have to perform in parades and shows and must not talk or else they will loose their voices and not be ablr to perform later.
or...
Tell her that they talk with their heart and that is the most important language of all.

Avoid some of my least favorites like...

tell her the truth...
or...
Ursala stole their voices.

after i heard the "tell them the truth" one, I was like..

I bet yoyu don't believe in Santa Clause either-meanie!!!
