Universal changes things up a lot. I think Disney needs to do a decent change at least once every 10 years or so. I'm not a believer in constant change, like having to get a new computer or IPhone every year, but a reasonable amount of change is going to be needed. If their sales aren't off, they probably have the lazy attitude that if it ain't broke, don't try and fix it.
My DH and DS13 both prefer Univesal and IOA to WDW because of this exact reason.
I remember when it seemed like every time we went there was something new going on, back in the 90's. I remember watching Pleasure Island change into DTD which is really now just a regular outdoor mall... at the time it was exciting though and at first it didn't feel like a big mall. Pleasure Island was waaaayyyyy better. I remember watching the Planet Hollywood ball go up and being excited to guess what it could be. I remember watching Animal Kingdom pop up too, and waiting 3 years worth of visits to actually enjoy it because the crowds were so big. Even The Boardwalk had something to offer guests not staying there, the restaurants, piano bar and just a really nice feel. The whole past decade everything just stagnated, they made really minor changes and wanted applause and customer service slid downhill, mousekeeping is different too. Now I hear the dining plans have caused the food quality to slide also, I haven't experienced it but I've heard it from others. It just makes me a bit sad, the place used to be bubbling with new things & the team always seemed bursting at the seams to make each experience better than the last & now it's not....sigh... why no bubbles? It costs me more but I'm not getting more or new. I'm just glad SIL is getting married in Miami or I don't think i could have convinced DH to bring us back this year. This stuff has been on my mind as I plan our next trip, I miss the excitement of new stuff.
