Why does use year month start 5-6 months before your actual purchase?

Okay, I have twice taken the tour and something I never did understand is why your use year month starts 5-6 months before your actual start date. Don't get me wrong, I like the idea of getting new points only 6 or 7 months after I purchase, but can anyone explain to me why this is? Also anyone have any idea or speculation as to if this will be the case with BCV since this is a pre-sale? Thanks in advance for being patient with all the questions.

I think you answered it perfectly. It makes the buyer feel good that they get a new allotment of points in only six months.

The start date is somewhat arbitrary. You buy those points and the cost of the resort from day one is really kind of covered. They could easily start it from the day you buy, but just price it so its worth it for them to backdate your contract six months. I bought early on, they kind of made it seem like they were doing something special for us by "Backdating" our contract a few months.

But isn't there a certain amount of inventory allocated to each month - so it depends on which they're selling at the time you buy that decides what you get?

When we bought - they gave us several different months to choose from - but, lately, it seems like it just depends on whatever they're selling at the time.

Maybe the introduction of the MB program has something to do with the change...

Agree with Rich (God, I can't believe I am saying that). It gives them an incentive in the sale--buyer gets one set of points at time of sale and in only 6 to 7 months rather than a year buyer will get another set of points. It also makes using Magical Beginnings, under which you sell back your first year's points and amount is applied to down payment, more palatable for the potential buyer because he will get that second allotment in 6 to 7 months rather than a year.

We bought in May '92, we have a June use year. It just depends on what inventory is open for sale when you purchase.

Wow, maybe they really did do something special for me.....

Rich,

Don't push it. Remember they promised you a replacement for the park passes!!

We bought in Feb the 1st time and were given a December use year, closed in April. Our add on was purchased in July and we got the previous December points closing in September. This doubling up on points allowed us to try a Grand Villa and take 2 cruises. It was like getting 2 years of points in one year with both contracts. We liked that and wish we had that many points all the time......spruce
