Sorry if this has been discussed, but i couldn't find a thread on it.

So does anyone know why the monorail stops sometimes in the middle of their run? They announce something about being busy etc., but this last trip, it happened to us ALOT.

One time it was about 20 minutes, near the poly, and lets just say the natives were getting restless! It was HOT and some people were clearly NOT amused.

I understand that they often stop for accessibility issues (wheelchairs) on the continual loading attractions (haunted mansion, spaceship earth etc) but it wouldn't take that long on the monorail.

So, anyone know?

Twenty minutes seems excessive to me. Usually it is just a couple of minutes while they wait for the previous Monorail to clear the station. If you waited that long there had to be some other issue. I think each monorail does the entire loop in 15-20 minutes. Poly is really close to the TTC so many times the Monorail you are on has to wait for the previous one to leave Poly before it can continue.

20 mins is long time.

They do have to stop between stations when the other monorail is still there. The conductor explained this to us while we were with him.

20 mins makes me thing something broke or something bad happened.

I have no idea, but it is frustrating, isn't it?

...especially if you allowed yourself 20 minutes to get from the Poly to the LTT to meet people...and the thing stops for 17 minutes! ARGH!

I've been on it two or three times when it was stopped for between 15 and 20 minutes, too. Don't let 'em make you think you're crazy. :)

I do know they will sometimes sit AT a station if there is strong lightening in the area, but not sure on the track between stations.

There was one time a ling time ago I had a long "stop" in between stations on the monorail. We were told it was a routine maintenance check - I believe someone came on the loudspeaker to tell us.

Usually a mechanical issue. We got stuck on the line from Epcot to TTC. We were in a rush, trying to get to HDDR at FtW. Thank heaven I had left more than enough time. We just crept along, rather than the usual pace. Then, when we got closer to the TTC, we just stopped, dead in our tracks. We sat there, suspended over the road for about 15+ mins. Kids were starting to get really nudgy and scared. The driver made an announcement that there was an issue up ahead that prevented our moving.

The monorail system is set up in zones as I understand it. When a given train is a given zone, no other monorails can enter that zone on the same track. They must stop and wait for the zone to be cleared before entering.

I was on the monorail one evening when our train got held up at .. I think it was the Contemporary station ... as it turned out.. one of the pairs of doors refused to close. Eventually, they cleared everyone out of that car, manually closed the doors and "locked" them if you will and the monorail proceeded on.

All this took quite a while and trains were held at the stations behind us with one on the track between stations.

We had to sit for a long time once; an announcement was made that they were either taking a train on or taking it off the loop...can't remember which. The irony is that we usually take the boat to MK, but hubby loves the monorail so I said, "Okay, fine, but it always takes FOREVER." That time it most definitely did, but he sure did get a long dose of monorail.

This happened to some friends of mine, she SWEARS her DH and DS made the doors stay open, by holding on to the Silver Poles that make the doors open and close!:confused3

Now I know who to blame... you can tell her I blame her family for my delay! ;)

This is exactly why I fail to understand the appeal of the monorail resorts.

"Holding for clearance" is the common refain.

I don't find it at all efficent and it's only enjoyable when it's MOVING!

While A 20 minute delay is frustrating that is something which does not happen all the time and when it does, it usually means something is wrong with one of the Monorails. A normal delay would usually be 30 seconds - 1:00 minute when the Monorail waits on the track for the one in front of it to leave the station it needs to go to. Last summer when coming back from Epcot to the TTC we were suck on that Monorail for almost 10 minutes and we were close to the TTC, which made it even more frustrating. Then there was some delay with the Resort Monorail because one Cast Member said there was some problems, however we couldn't get a straight answer. So basically it meant longer waits at the Polynesian and Grand Floridian Monorail stations.

Another thing that could cause a delay of a few minutes is additional monorails being brought onto the track. I've watched from California Grill as trains are loaded onto the loop at the "switch" next to MK. I've always wanted to watch this happen from the sidewalk between CR and Mk but alas I've never been lucky enough be there as it happened. The whole process seemed to take about 5-7 minutes, and traffic on the loop was stopped while this was going on. Both times I saw this happen were around 5:30pm
