Why does my son like to collect rocks?

LOL! My DD did the same thing at the same age. We had bags and bags of them.

Something they can do all on their own and have something to show for it. Plus it is just their own--no one elses and they did it!

I forgot all about that! My DD is 14 now #1 in her class and was just accepted to a wonderful Prep School that is very difficult to get into!

See!!!:D :D

Richard collected rocks at that age. He had a BAG of them! :) Occasionally, I would find a loose one around and toss those. From there, he went to the pretty colored rocks the stores sell in the velvet-like bags. That didn't last too long at that point.

My DS went a step further. He had a "Rock and Stick" collection that he started when he was about 5.

The rocks were allowed in his room if they were clean. The sticks we "planted" in a large garden pot on the patio. :)

I am a 55 year old woman and I STILL collect rocks!:p It seems like a natural thing for kids to do. I still love it!

Shannon, she has about 7 big boxes that are full of rocks, feathers, shells, baseball cards, marbles, wooden nickels etc. (sounds like she could appear on the ol' game show 'Let's Make A Deal :) )
You need to go to your library and find the book "Sylvester and the Magic Pebble" for that little guy. He'd enjoy the story. It is one of my favs from childhood!:bounce:

Well, my 9-year-old DD STILL collects rocks. I find them everywhere, in her backpack, in the armrest in the car , in her pockets. Who knows why, she just finds them interesting, I guess! :)
