Why does Family Feud continue to be popular?

I enjoy Harvey as a comedian but the show is pretty raunchy. The questions are designed to produce non family friendly answers based on the studio audience who must be made up of middle schoolers. I still watch the show sometimes if I am preparing dinner.

I have never figured out how in the world Family Feud is still popular ever since Steve Harvey started hosting it? Is it because Family Feud has sort of an appeal with it's audience or is it because of the gameplay? Because it seems that in syndicated game shows Family Feud is number one second and third to Jeopardy and Wheel Of Fortune and always gets renewed for more seasons each year. I also cannot figure out how Steve Harvey was even chosen to host it? Because I think Family Feud has turned Steve Harvey into a superstar and I think this is what they had in mind when they chose Steve Harvey to host Family Feud and the show's reruns are huge moneymakers for Game Show Network. If they would've chosen someone better the show would've had better ratings and I truly think Steve Harvey took the job as a way to boost his popularity because Steve is seen almost anywhere you look on TV
Personally I don't find Steve Harvey that amusing, and Family Feud has changed from being family-friendly.

I liked it with Richard Dawson (yes, I'm dating myself) and Ray Combs. Richard Karn was OK.

Most of us have access to 500 channels. You have to have something to fill all those channels.
Family Feud draws enough viewers to turn a profit. Never been a fan of Steve Harvey, but somebody has to host it.

As a kid home alone during summer vacation, I used to watch it often, along with other game shows and syndicated reruns.

The original Family Feud was on ABC and had a lot of ABC tie ins. I remember one special version they did between several players from the Dallas Cowboys and several of their cheerleaders. Richard Dawson asked several of the cheerleaders if they participated in a guest appearance on The Love Boat. That was when they had a syndicated evening version running in parallel.

But Steve Harvey is a mean spirited, racist clown. My dad watches the show and I have to look away if it’s on when I’m visiting.

I don't specifically try to watch it, but if I'm bored and channel flipping I enjoy it. I liked Richard Karns best - not so over the top. I'm okay with Steve Harvey until he does the schtick where he draws out the joke for an extended time with really dramatic pauses while making faces etc. Just keep it moving already! The Richard Dawson kissing everyone thing really bugged me. I had forgotten that Ray Combs, Louie Anderson, and Jon O Hurley hosted too. I've gone extended times in my life not ever watching I guess. (I just googled)

Can’t stand Steve Harvey, who has a history of casual racism. I have no idea how he’s managed to survive his history.

I don’t find him funny at all.

I am not a prude at all but I find most of the questions are too filled with innuendo and it just gets lame after a while.

I really like the show when it's family oriented, but won't watch it with Steve Harvey...yuck.

Richard Dawson was creepy. Of the 20,000 or so women he is estimated to have kissed on the show, I wonder how many felt pressure to let it occur?

I would much rather have a host asking edgy questions than one kissing every female contestant.

My understanding with Richard Dawson was that he always asked before each show started if it would be OK and always respected the wishes of any contestant who declined. And he did come back for one season in the 90s, and at that point he felt that the kissing was inappropriate. So at the very least he acknowledged that what he did in the past wasn't appropriate moving forward.

Yes, but the women who appeared on the show did so willingly and knew that Richard Dawson would kiss them. Most seemed eager.

Pressure to conform has often resulted in people doing things they are really not comfortable doing.

He put many woman in a position where they possible felt they had to agree.

How about bringing back Queen For A Day with Jack Bailey?
I saw some old kinescopes of that show. My mother remembered it. Talk about tacky.

I thought it was in atrocious taste. Cagey contestants soon realized the more heart wrenching their tales of woe were the more likely they were to win. Some were faking it.

The show was live for many years, and my mother mentioned a less than gracious runner up who started to cause a scene before the camera quickly cut away.

A gender neutral version was Strike It Rich. Many people spent their last dollars getting to New York in hopes of being on the show and got stranded there when they weren’t selected.

They could have, you know, not gone on the show if they felt uncomfortable. Maybe other family members twisted their arms to appear.
