Why does DVC waste money like this?

We FINALLY got the 2011-2012 Vacation Planner yesterday. Well, there have been many comments about the waste that was. But then today, by Priority mail we got the 2010 Vacation Planner! All I can think of is that we just did a 100 point add-on (same UY, so not a new membership #). But to send us the 2010 planner is so pointless. Don't their computers recognize that we're already members and got the newest Planner?

I agree with you. We got two 2011-2012 planners... one for DH and one for myself. One per household would be enough.:sad2:

Think about how much stuff they must send out. My parents and myself and wife are all on the deeds (3 contracts - one membership). We don't all get stuff, but they do mail everything to each household.

My guess is the 2010 book is still being sent because the 2011 book itself is worthless. They could have sent out point charts and a small Adventures by Disney/World Passport/Concierge Collection update to put in the back of the 2010 book. 2010 has pics and layouts. 2011 has nothing.

Clearly most of this is online, just hard to navigate to. And frankly, the 3D room layouts on the member site are obnoxious, I'd love a standard 2D floor plan for each resort.

Anyway, agree, wasteful. But wasteful to even have done the 2011 book at all.

I'm not sure why you got the 2010 planner. Maybe it was because you purchased resale? Except I don't remember getting a planner on our second contract which was purchased resale. Don't know why you got the old planner.

However keep in mind that the 2011 - 2012 planner is now called Reservation tools and is only a portion of the vacation planner, the section with the point charts. Later in the spring another planner with all of the glitzy pictures and everything left of out this planner is still coming out. Not sure why we need more than we got already.

I think it would be nice if the DVC offered an opt out of the mailed planner as we really only use the point charts we download to our computers.

I find the points chart in the books to be much more helpful than the website. With the book, I can sit and flip back and forth checking different resorts and unit sized, the website is a pain.

Letting people opt out is a great idea.

I think there is value to the book conceptually - just not the way they produce it. They all just seem to look the same year after year. I do agree that the points charts are easier to use from the book.

I think maybe have a place on the website to request the new book by mail if you want it -That way only the people that really use them would bother -I actually flip back and forth in the initial planning stage too -

I used to do the same thing. Then I found this site and I never care if I see another vacation planner from DVC as long as the site is kept up to date. Makes vacation planning super simple.
