seem so hard!

I made a call to our local DSS today. I have recently learned of a situation where a child (he is sophmore in high school, so not too young) was being neglected. His mother had fallen into the "wrong crowd", they have lost pretty much everything ... her house, car, etc. She has pawned all things of value in the house and is very much neglecting her son. No food or anything in the house. Lots of other horrid things I won't go into detail about. The boy's grandmother would like to get custody of the boy, but was not brave enough to call anyone to pursue it. The "crowd" has been pretty abusive to the grandmother and she didn't want to be the one to make "the call" to DSS. I know it will be helpful in the long run, but I assume the boy will suffer for the next little while!

Not a good situation either way! Anyone else done this before???

You did the right thing and you are giving the boy a second chance. I once had to call on an inlaw. It was terrible. Al;though I don't have a relationship with them any more, the child is in an enviroment where she is thriving. Would have never have happened if she remained at home.

LynetteSC I think people who help children are our real heroes!! I know that it was hard to call, but you KNOW you did the RIGHT thing. If we don't protect our children who will? Unfortunately anyone can have kids.

as a peds nurse...i've been in that situation numerous times. it never gets any easier.


but rest easier knowing you DID make a difference!

You did the right thing, I bet you can feel that in your heart. I wouldn't hesitate to call on someone if I thought that was the right thing to do. Give yourself credit for taking the first step to help this childs not so good situation.

I have never had to do anything like that.. but would in a heartbeat if I knew a child was being neglected..... Bravo to you for doing the right thing...

Had to turn in a family member. It wasn't easy, but it was right thing to do!
