Why Do You Think Giselle Isn't in the Parks?

I loved Enchanted. I saw it 3 times in the theatre and I almost never see a movie more than once at the theatre. I thought Giselle was great and would be a very cool addition to the parks. Less of a "little girl" princess. Plus a really good character who would be fun to meet and greet. I am still very surprised she isn't in the parks. I could swear I saw a picture of her in one of the parades, but that was probably right when the movie came out, after that, other than lots of Giselle stuff in the Disney stores, pretty much nada in at WDW...I've always wondered why. :confused3

I hope Tiana fares better.

It had something to do with they would have to pay alot of money to use the Actresses likeness or something like that.

I know someone else will remember more.

I think the real problem with it is that Giselle's look is based on the "real" face....not a cartoon. Therefore, it's hard to match her up if that makes any sense. The actress who played her had quite a distinct look where characters like Cinderella have distinct hair etc. that they can copy on a CM. I think there were other issues too around using the actress's likeness.

I too heard the rumor that there was something in the actor's contracts in that movie- something about that they got royalties when their likenesses were used. I am not sure if it's true, but we know how Disney likes to save money ;)

I did see Giselle once in Disneyland at the beginning of the parade when the movie was just about to be released and she was a really good Giselle too. But I would love to see Giselle and Prince Edward in the parks- both so funny!

Amy Adams had it written in her contract that the character Giselle would not be in the Disney parks greeting guests. Something to do with the way she portrayed Giselle in the movie and she didn't want that ruined by another actress.

Could be not exactly true but that is the rumor. You were able to see Giselle in parades because she really didn't have any guest interaction. It is rather sad that guests will never be able to talk and have pictures taken with Giselle...ever. But I guess Disney didn't mind that to agree to it in a contract.

Mary Poppins is a real person in a movie but she is in the parks. So maybe it does have something to do with the contract. Enchanted is one my favorite movies too! I was so happy when the Disney movie rewards sent me the bluray version free for my birthday. I can watch it over and over.

I didn't get anything from DMR for my bday!! Whats up wit dat?

Hmmm... :confused3 I just had my bday at the end of September and there was an email from them offering me a free bluray from a choice of 5. I did have to pay $3 shipping. Small price for a bluray of a movie I have been wanting to get anyway!

First I love Amy Adams. I met her on set for Doubt, my Youngest Daughter was in it, and she is real sweet. At the time that she made Enchanted she was not a well known actress and I don't think she had the juice to tell Disney to do more then pay her on time.

I would love to see her in the Park.

She was nominated for an Oscar as Best Supporting Actress for Junebug in 2006. Enchanted came out in 2007. Just saying. :rolleyes1;)

She still did not have the star power to tell Disney anything at that point. Even Capt. Jack is in the parks and you would figure Johnny has more juice then her. I guess what I am saying is what ever the reason she is not in the park I doubt it has to do with demands that Amy Adams had. If it is true then I guess we know why there is a new head at Disney Studios.

I love Enchanted, and I've always been sad about Giselle not being in the parks, too. I was happy to at least catch her in the pre-parade they had before Enchanted came out on DVD. She looked just like Amy Adams, kind of a waste that they couldn't use her for Giselle meet & greets.

Huh, very interesting. I had thought it might have something to do with Giselle being not just a cartoon princess and it might be hard to do a real character, but then I remembered how well they do Jack Sparrow in the parks (the Jacks I've seen have been really good) and I didn't think that could be it. I wonder if Amy really did have that in her contract? Interesting.

I found this info on Wikipedia:

Although Giselle is shown in both animated and live-action forms, she is not being marketed as one of the Disney Princesses, as was thought when a 2007 Toy Fair showed a Giselle doll featured with packaging declaring her Disney Princess status.[2] Disney has since decided not to include Giselle in the Princess line, as they would have to pay for life-long rights to Adams' image, as well as any royalties to James Baxter Animation (who created the animation for the movie). While Amy Adams' likeness is used in promotions of the film, her animated likeness is used on all Princess Giselle merchandise. [3]

The latest controversy regarding Giselle's Disney Princess status arose when Disney announced that the appearances of the animated version of Giselle and Amy Adams were different enough such that Disney did not need to pay royalties to Adams for her image, spurning negotiations between the actress and Disney.[4]

I know that wikipedia isn't the foremost authority on accurate information, but I found it interesting!

Well, technically at the end of the movie, Giselle is working in NYC making princess clothing and is no longer working in a princess capacity. She would be way too busy to make the personal appearances. Now the woman that married the Prince, she could make appearances....:thumbsup2

just saying....
