on the Community Board? I for one, come here to escape the "real" world. Planning a Disney vacation can do a world of good, when life's daily problems are looming in your head. The CB and other fluff boards are just the icing on the cake. Its fun to banter back and forth about things, silly and mundane things. I do not come to the DIS to discuss politics, religion, breastfeeding, gay marriages, etc. There are plenty of bulletin boards that "specialize" in such topics. It is my hope that all the people from the debate board can find a new home. Good Luck to all in your quest.

Holly

Why in the world do you want to tell people to find a new home? Not very warm or inviting.

I may not have participated in a lot of debate threads, but 90% of them were eye opening, elightening, and educational. Being exposed to new ideas and thoughts is NEVER a bad thing.

It's been ONE DAY since they closed the DB, and I'm pretty sure that the DB regulars are pretty bummed out about it, and then to be told by numerous posters to "Go Away" is only going to want them to stay. I know that if someone tells me I can't do something, just because they don't want me to, well, guess what I'm going to do.

If you open a thread that you don't want to read, just hit the back button. I'm sure there will still be plenty of fun, fluff, and general silliness here on the CB.

I posted here on the CB board becusae I like adult conversation that was fun. I have a 3 yo and a 1yo old so conversation although wonderful..is lacking.

I went to the Debate Board becuase DH while he works in an extrememly politcal environment, will not hold an opinion on anything. He has been like that his whole life..and it drives me nuts. So I went there to have a challenging conversation. And I learned a lot....especially about religion.

I also learned a lot about the way our government is run. As most people know I skipped 10th grade (American History.) Knowing that...I stayed away from it in college too. So, I learned alot (especially from AFR since she was always opposite me) about the way the government spends it's money. And while I still dont agree...at least I know what to campaign about!;)

Did it ever occur to you that maybe the debate board was the icing on the cake to some other people? Why are those who did enjoy it and get something out of it not welcome?

I am sorry you read into it that way. I did not intend it to come across like that. It would seem more likely that people who like to debate would fare better in a true debate forum. The CB does have some opiniated people but in no way can debates be truly debated if the support is not there.

You are correct and I do apologize. I guess when I think of Disney, I just think of fluff and fantasy and happy things. Alright I may be a little jaded but my first thought when I hear the word Disney is Minnie & Mickey Mouse ::MinnieMo ::MickeyMo not religion.

I find it an enjoyable place to visit and chit chat about most anything, including discussions with various and varying points of view, short of true debates....per the dictionary (To engage in argument by discussing opposing points)....and argument defined (A quarrel; a dispute). I find it similar to several coffee shops I have visited over the years, chit chat about anything, family, the weather, movies, trips, cars, anything, but not name calling, YELLING nor out and out arguments/debates, but rather friendly, low key discussions, though boring to some, just about right for me, and those who are there also.

I also feel that many, probably most, of the folks from the DB, (though I did not visit there, so I don't know for sure, but do think many visited both the CB and DB already) will feel just fine here on the Community Board. There are plenty of discussions, exchanges of ideas and viewpoints now about everything, like politics, religion, kids (yikes, talk about three hot examples, LOL :scared1: ). Just not arguing about same, a little more docile (okay, boring to some :)), but still, an exchange of ideas, conversation. I do hope most, those who have not visited this board, to find it as enjoyable as the folks who have visited, enjoyed and returned in the past.

As I like to think, family.

Well, just for the record, I do understand the desire to get away from the "real world" and to come someplace where it's all fluff and fun. I guess the problem is, there's no place specifically for the real world stuff anymore, so folks who do want that have to "invade" another board. Not that I particularly plan on flooding the CB. I'll probably just come here a lot less often. A shame really since the DB was only one of several boards I liked here. Oh well. Good luck with it all.

Well said as usual Dan.

I come to the CB as an escape, if you will. After a stressful day at work I come here to unwind, see what's going on elsewhere in the world and keep up with the lives of others I've come to know just by visiting the DIS over the past 4-5 years. I come here when my Disney trip planning questions have been answered on the other boards and want/need to discuss something other than Disney specifically. The CB is a wealth of information, be it Disney related or not.

Thanks Dan for putting into words what I was unable to. This place does remind me of a little coffee shop from days gone by. I am afraid now that the little coffee shop has turned into a yuppified Starbucks;)

It's escape for me.
I'm not a debater. It's nice to read people's debates and choose not to participate. There can be alot to learn in a debate.

I visit the CB for fun and to chat with friendly people. Everyone here has been great. And I've even met a few in person and actually like them! :teeth:

Someone learned a lot about religion on the DB? Ummmmmmmmm...unless people over there have a degree in theology, I wouldn't go looking at the DB to learn about religion.

Kris, just to veer OT for a moment. My wife just bought a Pontiac Vibe and she loves it. It's a neat little car. I was seriously considering one myself but the only thing that stopped me was the engine noise. It was just a little too noisy for me. I'm kinda anal about stuff like that.

sorry but I can make my own decisions about religion. I don't need a theology major to tell me what I should or shold not believe. If we all needed degrees in what we post about then the DIS would be dead.

There are so many things posted on the CB that have absolutely nothing to do with Disney. I wonder how people on the CB would feel if somebody came along and said they didn't want to hear ALL off topic things anymore. I can't understand the need for all of the different 'groups' as I'm sure many don't, but that doesn't mean you or anybody else has the right to tell them, or you, to go find a different 'home'.

I think the CB is the most active board here and while the DB was active, it was only a tenth of what the CB is.

IMO, the CB is too busy for my tastes. In only a few hours the posts are three pages old.

If the CB ever shut down, there wouldn't be enough pixie dust and hugs to go around. The collective gasp would cause a vacuum.

I know kindness is not one of your strong suits, but I did think you knew how to read. I guess I was mistaken. If you read the post you would not have jumped in with yet another NASTY remark. Geesh, does anything nice EVER come out of your mouth?:scratchin
