My first (and only) Disney resort stay was in the Alligator Bayou section of POR. It was nice, but because it was our first Disney resort we expected a little more (one example, that was our first hotel stay without a closed closet).

We enjoyed the resort, and are planning on returning and (hopefully) being able to stay in the mansion buildings for a different experience.

I've read tons of positive reviews about POR, but I'm curious to know what exactly makes people LOVE POR? I'm hoping to learn some new things about this resort, and possibly some comparisons to others!

image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg July 7-13 we stayed at POR in a Royal Room in the Mansions section (Parterre Place). We liked the theming of our room & thought the resort was very beautiful & relaxing. Room wasn't too far a walk to bus, we used the main south bus stop & thought the bus service was very good, something we were concerned about in a big resort. Food court was goodI have previously stayed at CBR (Jamaica village) & liked it also.

I love everything about POR! It is my "home" resort when going to WDW. I especially love the Royal Rooms! These are my favorite rooms I have stayed in on property so far. They are beautiful, comfy and the grounds in that area are just gorgeous and relaxing. We have stayed at all of the values and moderates and POR is our favorite food court, with lots of great options at any time of the day. We really love the boat transportation to DTD.. it is nice to get away from the buses for a change, and also very relaxing. I love how spread out everything is.. taking a walk or renting bikes. It is just perfect in my eyes.

crmscotland......did you steal my photos????!!!! I have almost exactly the same ones from my stay in May. We had the room on the top floor, to the very left side of your photo!!! Behind that tree!!!
Anyway.....what do I love about POR? It was my first resort back in '99. It was Dixie Landings back then. We were put way out in the back of AB....but it was lovely. The walk to get breakfast, by myself, was wonderful!! So quiet and peaceful. I love the landscaping there....each area has it's own charm. The food court is one of the best on-site.
I can't compare it with other moderates.....I love POR so much that I doubt I'll ever stay in a different moderate. I own DVC at both BLT and BWV....but I still like to stay at POR every few years. It's like comfort food for me.

We stayed there for the first time last year. We loved it. We were 5, (three teenagers) so a tad crowded in our room, but the grounds and quiet feel sure made up for it. Even though it could be busy at the main pool or the quick service inside the main building (mostly went for coffee in the mornings) the walk there and back was peaceful and lovely. And the evening boat ride from DTD to POR was awesome!

Haha! Nope, these were some of the ones l took when we arrived there a couple of weeks ago (one of the room is before my family "settled in", my son is in the 4th photo standing at the steps.
It's a beautiful resort isn't it. Even though it is big, you don't feel overwhelmed by it, outside it never felt busy, just really relaxing. The food court was busy sometimes, but we never had difficulty getting a table.
Liked getting the boat to/from DTD & the stroll to FQ - fun pool there, which POR guests can use.

We love having a pool right outside our door, a huge awesome food court with cheesecake, great gift shop, boat to DTD, Yeehaa Bob, great busses all the way around, fun music, great landscaping.....

That's how we feel about POR as well. And I'll add to that....I love seeing the horse and carriage go by during the evening, love that it's a quick walk to POFQ ( to get beignets), there's fishing at the fishing hole, nightly marshmallow roasts, outdoor movies. I think of POR as a deluxe mod...or a moderate deluxe, lol.

It's my favorite resort too. We have stayed in both alligator bayou and the mansion side. The mansions are our favorite by far. I love the theming of the resort, the gift shop, the pools, food court, the boat to DTD, etc. Even though the resort is huge and is usually crowded, it doesn't feel like it. We were there in July and if there were people in any of the rooms above us or on either side, we never heard them. Given the size of the resort, it's still quiet and relaxing

We previously stayed at Poly twice and loved it, until the construction. Last visit, we stayed at POR to save money and Poly was still under construction:sad2: We loved POR, even though we didn't take advantage of the amenities like I wanted. We will be staying again in June. We loved the atmosphere, landscaping, theming, Cast Members, pools, rooms, boat to DTD, 2 sinks, and price. It so reminded of us of New Orleans and the South, very relaxing and comfortable.

At first, I didn't like the open closets, sinks in the room, or smaller room size. However, they ended up not being an issue for the 3 of us. The curtain really blocked the bathroom/sink light and noise from our son.

Thank you for the replies! They're definitely helping me get even more excited for our next stay! We're not staying in a royal room but I'm planning on putting in a request for a mansion building. Any ideas on the best way to do this?

I have loved it from day one when it was Dixie Landings. We always stay in Alligator Bayou and simply love the peace and quiet and the beautiful landscaping. Getting a seat for breakfast can be a challenge but we manage. We have simple food taste and love that we can always find something to satisfy us. The make your own pasta and salad stations are the best!

We have always encountered lovely CMs both in Fulton's, in the food court, greeting us at the gate and at the front door and running the boats.

We adore the boat to DTD. My sister always refers to it as her favorite ride at WDW!

It simply feels like home now after all our visits. Back in December 2016!!

POR is our families fav resort. For us the arcade food court and shop are the best among the mods. The restaurant is good loved the breakfast when they had it and the pools are up there. Also the boat to DTD is great plus. The mansions is were we love to stay. But why do we love POR? More then any other resort POR takes you away. The grounds and atmosphere are number1. Best place to talk morning walks. Then of course there is Piano Bob. Our number 1 Resort POR.

I love POR! I would stay again if my boys didn't insist on trying something new. :sad2:
For all the reasons everyone else already pointed out are obvious reasons why. We were sprinkled with pixie dust & upgraded to a RR pool view. The grounds were breathtaking along w/the benches that sometimes we just wanted to stop and sit to take it all in.
Pole Fishing! My boys loved this!!! They went 3 or 4 times during our stay.
Food Court! We never found it too crowded & always got a table. The food was the BEST QS of the trip hands down.
Quiet Pool! Was right outside our room & we took advantage of it late every evening. Seemed like the only ones who used it.
Such a GREAT Resort!!!!:lovestruc

POR is probably my second favorite resort so far. It is lovely to walk around the grounds, and taking a Surrey bike ride. I enjoyed staying both in a RR and AB, but I liked the Royal Room better. I honestly think my favorite part of POR is Boatwright's. I found their food to be delicious!

POR the resort is our favorite of the mods and is our home when we stay mod. The atmosphere is what sets it apart even from the deluxe's. It has a very laid back, gentile attitude that really enhances our chances of letting go of the modern, mundane world while we are on vacation. Just walking from the rooms, over the bridge, past ole man island, to the lobby relaxes me like no other resort. IMO if i were to stay in the mansion rooms for the rest of my visits I would be completely satisfied.

We have had our travel agent add a note to our reservation requesting a room in the mansion section. It has always worked for us. You can also ask at the front desk when you arrive.

Hmmm... What's not to love here ??? :confused3

Actually the only thing I can think of is the bus service. Especially coming back from HS or Epcot....Other than that this place is awesome.

We stayed in the Magnolia Bend Mansion, which was ideal...So close to everything, including the bus depot, the quiet pool, & the main pool, The movies under the stars was only 1 bldg over. & the main bldg was maybe an 8 minute walk, if that.

One of , if not the best food courts, & also Yeehaw Bobs, in the lounge is great. Nice relaxing boat ride to some of the other resorts, & DTD as well.

It's also a quick bus ride to HS & Epcot, and not too bad to MK or AK..

All in all it's just one of those places that just lets you know that your in WDW...What more can I say???

We loved POR. By far our favorite part: the grounds are just so peaceful and lovely. We enjoyed the theming as well, as it was still obvious that it wasn't just any ol' regular hotel, but it wasn't over the top in-your-face. We never experienced any issues with buses. Occasionally we would have to wait a bit longer than we would have liked, but never more than 15 minutes, and having the screens w/ the estimated arrival times for the buses helped to temper our impatience.

I loved POR when I stayed there. The grounds were pretty, the pool area was fun and the boat to DTD was a nice benefit. Much more fun to take for a night out than a bus in my opinion.
