We love the entire camping experience and think it's a fantastic family thing to do!! We're fortunate that our best friends both have campers, so we usually camp together with them and their kids. :woohoo: :yay: :yay:

I love having my own things, my own bed, etc. The kids love to camp.

We stayed at a Marriot $159.00 +tax per nite in Covington La. The room they first sent us to had peanut shells in the bed and unmentionables in the trash can, hair all over the bath. Yes it was supposedly cleaned. We got back on Thursday bought our TT on Saturday. No more Lysol Spray and wipes for us. Then we got us a puppy since she could now come along on our trips. All 3 have a great time...:dogdance:

30 yrs ago we started camping in a truck camper because it was a cheaper way to travel. Then we upgraded to a class A MH because we had 3 kids and two large Dobermans. ( Family was afraid of the dogs and we didnt want to board them) Today it's my husband, me ,two different dogs and a 5th wheel. I'm probably in the minority here....I don't own an RV because I'm into the woodsy outdoors. <Whispers>....I actually hate the smell of campfires.:scared1: We camp because:

1. I get to take my entire compact home with me. I have my space and my husband can have his space when we need it.

2. When we are away from our "traveling home" I know my pets are comfortable in the RV.

I chose: Love being outside and Other. Other because it's a learning experience for DS. Before FW we did a lot of primitive camping and his respect for nature really shows. He can identify poisonous snakes, spiders, and plants. Now at FW, he can identify salamanders, geckos, anoles, armadillos, and the difference in the smell of swamp gas and human gas (that's a whole 'nother story)

Thats literally right down the street from me, $159 for a room in this area is simply ridiculous, I guess the peanut shells cost extra....its not like theres anything for tourists to do around here....except drive 30 miles to get to N.O.

It was about 2001. we did swamp tour, looked at old mansions, walked all over N.O., toured Albita beer factory, and ate, ate, ate. Best food we ever had.

The swamp tour IS pretty cool! I have some Abita Strawberry Lager in he fridge right now.....not even a hint of a strawberry flavor though!!! We Do have some tastey eatins here....the DW and I have lived in a few different states and we always get homesick and move back within 2 yeas...I have always thought it was the lack of flavor in the rest of the country that keeps calling us back!!

Explaining the other vote...

Other: Because, it's the only way I can vacation with my four legged kids at Disney! Other wise, I'd be cruising.....but, I can't bring my kids on a cruise ship,.....yet. Our you listening cruise world?!? lol!

We love to Camp because we can stop and go as we please. It's nice to just be able to pull over and catch a few zzz's if we need to. Also, we love that we can bring our 3 dogs along, and our neighbors love it too (they used to watch our dogs while we were away). One of the other things we love about camping are the people!! Everyone (especially at the Fort) is just so friendly!! And I just have to say, I love being able to just step outside the RV, sit in my fold up chair, and have a beer and a cig while playing with the dogs!! :thumbsup2

I don't like strange toilets. Mine has plenty of reading material close at hand.

I chose Saving $$. But that's an interesting way of posing the question... We simply don't have it to spend, and since my sis and us are splitting the cost, we're only paying about $25 (inc. tax) for our site per family per night. We're not saving money by staying here instead of at even a value, we're spending less!! The cheapest value resort I could find was $82 a night. OUCH!! and that only allows us 4 people per room. We have 5 kids, so we'd HAVE to get 2 rooms which would be $160+ per night!! There's just no snowball's chance of us being able to do that!

We're tenting it... hope it doesn't rain on our parade:eek:

I love to camp because :

1. I know who slept in my bed last, no worries about bed bugs.

2. I can make my bed as comfortable as I want, without having to guess if the bed is going to be hard or not.

3. I can cook if I want or eat out if I want.

4. I can bring my doggie..

5. I can smoke on my site -- for now, anyway. If they change that I'll just stop going to WDW.

6. DH absolutely hates to fly but loves to travel.

7. No luggage or toiletries to pack. Just throw in some clothes and food and hit the road.

7. Freedom to stop where we want and when we want during the trip.

8. Being able to take a bathroom break or get food without stopping.

9. Originally we started camping to save money, and our first unit paid for itself in a few years. But with the MH I'm not sure we'll live long enough to see the breakeven point!

10. Friendliness of fellow campers.

11. Relaxed, laid-back atmosphere.

12. Enjoying being at the MH. If I'm in a hotel room I'm bored.

I could go on and on ...

We have stayed at the Grand Floridian and the Polynesian but we love Fort Wilderness the best. We can bring our dogs, we have the freedom to move around and spread out outdoors. We've been camping at Fort Wilderness since our children were small and now we're bringing our grandchildren. We want them to understand you don't have to spend a fortune to enjoy each others company and to have a good time.

I said other. I camp at FW because thats what I grew up doing. I tried pop a few years ago it just was not the same. Also here in Texas people like to float the Guadalupe river. I floated it as a teenager and there where campgrounds right on the bank of the river and I said when I could afford it I would get a trailer and camp there. Now this is our summer trip.
We always float the Frio. Still do, but we like bringing the grandkids to WDW.
