Why do women like macho men?

I'm attracted to men who are confident enough in themselves to just be who they are and don't feel the need to be one thing on the outside and an entirely different thing on the inside. I find macho to be false bravado. A man can be strong without dragging his knuckles on the ground, he can be respectful without being weak. IMO, macho is not for grownups who realize there is more to a relationship in real life than there is in the movies and is nothing really to aspire to.

Some men are very strong on the outside and still have an inner strength and sensitivity...I'm not talking about the knuckles dragging on the ground type...I'm talking about someone who may not show his feelings to everyone, though.

I actually watched a special about him the other day. He does have a good voice though. He did say that he realized that his fight with the D chick was kind of trivial, and he wished that he hadn't gotten involved in it. Maybe he has potential, I don't know?

These are surely MACHO TYPE MEN with all the strengths and weaknesses that come with macho. These include: somber, uncommunicative, distant, unemotional, but handsome, confident, physical, sexual and very popular with your lady friends.

I wouldn't call my DH *macho* but he's definitely a strong, confident, very handsome man. He's also NOT somber, uncommunicative, distant or unemotional. I like real men, I can't stand the wussy, can't even change a tire, fix something around the house, don't ever want to break a sweat, that are all talk and no action kinda men.

The reason I say he's not *macho* is because he doesn't have a sexist bone in his body and would'nt even think of pulling any of that crap with me. I never wanted to be saved and I think the whole knight in shinning armor thing is just a fairytale and over-rated. I was never waiting for my prince to come either. I think Cinderella was a dorm mat and should've left the evil witches years earlier and I can't stand the fact that she needed some dorky prince to save her, she should've saved herself. I don't believe there is such a thing as happily ever after and I prefer it that way. I'm NOT a damsel in distress kind of girl, I can take care of myself if I have to.

I'd agree with that...My ex-husband crossed that line, but I don't think someone who makes comments like "I'm no prize" (which he got fussed at for) or is sensitive about his height has crossed the line

I agree with all of this.

I'm attracted to all the men listed (especially Sam Eliot - ooh la la!). In a relationship, I like men who look and act like men. I am not at all attracted to men who prance about, and carry on about the way they look. Nor can I stand a man who likes to gossip. If I want a Queen, I'll hang with my gay friends or one of my girlfriends. I like the differences between men and women, and have no desire to change my man into acting more like me. He is sometimes gruff, not always the best communicator, but I like that -- I need the strong and silent type. I need that contrast in my relationships, I guess.
