Why do we buy toys for our children?

DD7 and DD4 played for HOURS this weekend with rocks and sticks from the yard. A plastic bucket was the only "technology" they incorporated.

Can anyone tell me why we waste our money on fancy toys?

I ask myself the same question all the time!

(when my brother asked me what to get my dd for her birthday, I told him "a rubber band and a cardboard box!!" Honestly, she would play with stuff like that more than toys! And this weekend, when she was bored, she made shoes out of a plastic trash bag and some scotch tape )

My 8 yo has more fun with his paper characters. He draws them, cuts them out and they are EVERYWHERE in my house. Their "home" is a cardboard race car that came from a kids meal at Quaker Steak.

So why do we buy toys? Stupid I guess.

lets see my dd8 uses big cardboard boxes for playhouses
cuts up papermoney and plays store for hours
baby loves banging on pots and pans with wooden spoons
and playing with clothing tags
the remote and pillows are also her friends
all those noisy light up toys make the baby cry?
go figure I could have saved alot of money
