I called to cancel some ADR and to try to make some new ones. I was asked if I was on the dining plan. I said yes and continued to make my ADRS. I was wondering WHY they ask? Do they save some seating for people NOT on the dining plan? Do they save some good times for people not on the DP?? DH says I have a suspicious mind. Maybe I do but I bet they save a few good times for people not on the DP so they can make more $$$? Ok so I do have a suspicious mind...I admit it!!!

It may be to tell you how many table service credits it would use up as the also only tell you about dress code when you book restaurants that have a dress code. If someone is not on the dining plan then there is no need to tell/confirm how many TS credits that meal requires.

I believe part of the reason is they mark it on your ADR and it appears on the screens at the restaurants that you are using free dining (even though your server will again ask you). I noticed it was on the screen when we checked in several times last year.

So they can provide correct information such as telling you how many credits a restaurant takes on the dining plan or what category is available for dinner shows.

I hope not.

And I believe they usually ask for place and time first. Then if you want it, they ask all the other information, including whether you are on the dining plan or not. Am I remembering this correctly?

Allison's right. I asked just the other day: It's JUST so the CM knows what information they have to provide the Guest in relation to the reservation. It'd be pointless - and confusing - to tell every single caller that the location "requires one table service credit". Only the Guests using the applicable plan need that information.

There is a another good reason they should ask you if you're using the dining plan.

If you had your heart set on eating at Bistro de Paris at Epcot, you'd have to pay out of pocket. They do not accept the DDP. It benefits those using the DDP to know this ahead of time in order to plan accordingly.

not sure if you just mean DDP rather than FD, but neither the people at the podium or your server will know wether u got your DDP for free or not

They also ask when you check in at the podium. I think something goes on the little print out the host(ess) leaves at your table for your server. Then your server knows if your on the DDP (or the DDE). I'd imagine it would also cut down on the times a room key is charged the dollar value of the meal instead of just debiting the credits.

sometimes....they dont always do this at podium, they SHOULD do, but they dont always. So many times I would get to the end of a meal and the guests would then tell me they were on DDP.
It helps now even more now, as there are the different levels of DP and so it means that the server is able to tell you exactly what you are entitled to.
