My goodness, but the monorail cars smell like a barn. Are they stored somewhere near the horses?

We were glad to use the bus service, so we could avoid them. P U

I like riding the monorail but you are right they have an "odor". I wonder if it is something with the recycled air.....

I never noticed an odor before, but when we were there last week, DH and I repeatedly noticed a barn smell in each monorail that we rode. What's up with THAT???

I have noticed the smell, but everytime I have ridden on them they have smelled like an airport/doctor's office.

I also would like to know the answer to this question. I have smelled it on my last few trips to the world.

This question has been brought up in the past. I know I posted it about 2 yrs ago,(unfortunately that was the last time I have been there) and the monorails had an oder then. I am not sure if a definate answer was determined but I think most opinions were that it was a cleaner that is used to clean the monorails. If it is a cleaner they really need to find a new cleaner. Any CM members out there know for sure?

here is my equation... ha

sweat (monorail + people) = Funky smells...

but hey its still high on my list.. in fact i have learned to love that smell
:p

it for sure smelled like the monkey house at the zoo when we went in november. It was still cool though becuase it wast the monorail:cool:

This first week of Dec. we were pretty sure our monorail had carried a camel

Should we all start carrying little cans of air freshener on the Monorail, and just a give a little squirt as we enter? And there should probably be an agreed upon scent. I'm not a big fan of pine, but flowers are okay.

To me, they smelled of grease. I figured it was maybe an overapplication of grease during the last maintenance stop. Spaceship Earth has sometimes had the same smell (although not as strong).

I've noticed a similiar smell on the subway system in Boston. I think it has to do with recyled air, parts of the monorail and the unfortunate people who don't bathe.

I've read about the people saying the monorail smells for years now. I have a VERY sensitive nose and never once noticed any "bad" smell until last week. It was so gross. It smelled almost like a combo of body odor and mold. Very bad.

now any time you catch a whiff of that smell it will remind you of Disney.

I rode the monorail a lot last week during my trip. Most of the time it wasn't noticable, but on one trip to the Grand Floridian, I swear it smelled like someone had urinated.

EWWWWWWWWWWW.

Of course, DH couldn't smell it and nobody else in our car seemed to care. I just hate the smell of Urine.

Oh wow! I thought it was just our bad luck we had a smelly car earlier this month. My mom, sister and I agreed it smelled like a ZOO. People don't smell zoo-ey-ish, that would be more like B.O. But who knows...

Only one time out of like 3 that we rode it did it smell bad.

I agree that monorail cars smell like urine. We had the unfortunate experience to get stuck between the Poly and TTC. A small girl had been complaining to her mother, loudly, that she had to go. Mom kept asking her to wait. We were stopped for about ten minutes.

After a while the little girl stopped mentioning her need to go potty.

And when you get wet people on the monorail who got caught in a rainstorm, you get that wet dog smell as well.

The reason the Boston (or most other) subways stink is that people pee down there, notably in secluded parts. Teens do it "to be fresh or funny", vagrants do it as part of their homeless life down there, etc.

Every now and then I hear of some city bus driver being disciplined for pee-ing inside the bus while waiting at an unattended terminus, especially through a gap at the rear door. And I would not be surprised if teenagers pee inside city buses too, at the back when no one is watching. People don't realize that there is a fine spray that splashes all over the place.

Suppose WDW put video cameras in some of the monorail sections.
