Why do some people think that AP's are "going away"?

I keep reading people alluding to the possibility of WDW not offering AP's anymore. Is there some real substantive reason or just speculation? Is it justifiable speculation? I don't really want to buy my AP for my Feb trip (buying one for the resort discounts) until the new package pricing structure is released in January in case it comes to a pretty good deal, but if there is some compelling reason to order it now I will.

I have no idea where this speculation has come from - to my mind it's completely unfounded!

If you are looking for reassurance though, it was just announced to DVC members a few weeks ago that from January 2nd they will be entitled to a member discount on Annual Passes. It would be crazy for Disney to announce a brand new offer only to remove it immediately - and Disney aren't crazy ;)

Hope that helps put your mind at ease somewhat :)

DVC announced a new perk for members that we will be getting $100 off the price of each AP starting 1/2/05. So I'm sure they will remain in place.

APs (both Fl resident and tourist) will NOT be affected by the new ticketing system. I just read this in my packet of information under FAQ on the new ticketing system.

This is a big change, and many people are scared by change and jump to conclusions. I have seen no evidence of AP's going away - why should they? Disney would be making a large group of people upset if they did.

This is pure speculation. Plus there are real reasons to believe Disney is NOT getting rid of APs. Just last week Disney announced a discount on APs to DVC members starting in January. I somehow don't think that between then and now they thought up MYW LOL!

It sounds as though this is not true at all, but it still makes me uneasy. I think we might just get our AP's sooner rather than later. We'd only be buying them a little bit earlier than planned anyway.

That would be just like Disney. Finally give the DVCers the long awaiting AP discount and then stop selling AP's. This way DVC can say they gave us the discount, its not their fault Disney stopped selling them?

(Just Kidding)

There's no way they'll ever stop selling the AP. Disney's main objective is and always will be to get people into their theme parks. The more time a guest spends in those theme parks, the more money they spend on souvenirs and food. Sure there are lots of folks who got into the habit of buying APs because they knew that they'd spend a week this year and a week the following year in the parks. Now it may be cheaper for them to build a 10 day ticket with the "no expiration" option. But there are many, many people who use their APs all the time...like those of us who live nearby. And the AP is the ultimate enticement to get people to come back....."well...we already have our APs....we only need to pay for hotel now..." They'll always be around.

Thanks everyone, it really doesn't make any sense especially knowing what I know now about the DVC perk. I had just read so many little comments here and there that I began to wonder if I wasn't privy to some important info. Thanks for all of the responses! :D

Now, only 2 months left to go!!! :cool1:

I think people are worried that there will be fewer hotel discounts since the Magic Your Way plan was announced, not that the AP will go going away altogether.
