Why do some people NOT like a ground floor room?

We stay mostly in mods - staying at CSR and POR in 3 weeks - and have stayed at POP. We prefer ground floor just because of strollers, easy access to pool, etc. But I noticed that some people PREFER a second floor room. Just in case we are missing out...what are the advantages of a second floor room?

Sometimes the ground floors can be noisier. I prefer the ground floor also for strollers. I did experience one time the ground floor being almost unbearable It was past midnight and above us there were people running back and forth and slamming doors. It was so loud and security wasn't doing anything to quiet it down. I called the front desk several times and went there myself. They were going to give me a refund for the night so we could go somewhere else as we were leaving early the next morning (4am) for our 900 mile drive back home. After that I didn't care if I had an upper floor. Strollers can be folded up an carried, just like on the buses.

...what are the advantages of a second floor room?

If the second floor is the top floor you have no one above you making possible noises when they return at night or early morning. After that people may prefer the view or in Florida, since it is wet/damp you remove yourself from some of the issues associated with a ground floor (dampness, insects, mold).

I prefer top floors because they seem quieter. You don't have the upstairs traffic.....

I also like opening my door and getting that overview, not just trees or a bush that I have had with ground floor rooms.

I also don't love bottom floors at the values and mods because I am afraid of little critters running in!! It's never happened, but I can't shake that feeling nonetheless!!

I've only been on the ground floor once, at POLY last year, but I do prefer second floor for some reason. To be honest, I'm not really sure why, I think I just like the feel of a balcony, almost like its a bit more private. But, maybe it was because someone was weed wacking pretty much in our room one of the days when we were on the ground so that could've turned me off. Also, I have yet to go with a stroller and such so perhaps after our trip next year with one, possibly two, little one(s) I'll have a different sentiment!

It really doesn't make that much of a difference to me...if I had to choose, I guess I'd pick a ground floor room just because it's easier...no lugging suitcases up and down the stairs.

many people worry their kids can get out of the room more easily out the sliding glass doors

I love ground floor rooms at the Polynesian because they have really nice patios to chill out on. At the GF like to be on the higher levels for the view

It does sorta depend on where you are staying but MOST upper floor rooms at MOST resorts have elevators these days.. There are a couple that don't in some buildings..

For me it is about noise and privacy. A ground floor room often has people walking right outside that may be able to see into your room, as well as people above you making noise. I feel the top floor is a little more secure and private than a ground floor room. Then again, I can be a light sleeper so that might color my perspective.

For many it's a security issue. I've read that some people are afraid of break-ins from the outside on a ground level. Not sure that's an issue in Disney, but could be outside of WDW.

For me it would be for a higher-up view & fear of critters. Yes, I know critters can get in any rooms on any level, but I have such a fear of snakes that if I can eliminate being on the ground floor I just feel better. Now I'm wondering what floor of the Poly that snake thread was from.....

I'm not sure who breaks into hotel rooms anyway, but in my mind being higher up could be a deterrent. Second, I just like being up high (better views, more fun) Third, it seems like less of a possibility for things to crawl in your room when you're not on the first floor

Security and privacy. I travel solo to Disney. I'm a 23 year old, relatively small female. I feel safer not being on the ground floor, particularly at the values. But even when I'm gifted my parents' DVC points (which I always use at resorts with interior hallways), I request "second floor or above". At the values, there's also the privacy factor. When you stay on a higher floor, the only people walking by/glancing in your window (in theory) are those on your floor, rather than potentially everyone from your building, and if you're near a main sidewalk, half the resort. I generally keep the shades drawn anyway, but, still.

We've stayed at POP on both ground and upper floors and prefer the ground. Our last visit we were in the 80/90's section facing the pool and loved it.

I prefer ground as its so much nicer after a long day to not have to bother with the elevator and just head straight to the room.

Noise was far worse in the 70's 2nd floor on prior visit. Really didn't have a noise issue on bottom floor. This is more of an issue with interior hallways with kids running down the hall late at night. I blame the parents for that though!!

I travel solo to Disney a lot and although I have never been afraid there - I certainly do want a second story room for most of the reasons people posted here.

I would not like the idea of someone or some critter following me into my first floor room, so I prefer being on the second floor when I am alone.

Bugs and noise from the people above me. I prefer to be on the tip top floor.

I actually prefer a 2nd floor, or higher, because I think snakes are more likely to be able to get into a ground level room. Not that they can't get into rooms above ground level, it just seems more likely on the 1st floor.

No matter what resort we're staying at, I look at all the ground floor rooms and see alot of guests leaving their sliding door open, drapes blowing out and the A/C on and wouldn't care for a room that animals and insects crawled into. I was impress alot of years ago whe Disney put a switch on the sliding doors that disabled the A/C until the door was open....to many guests with a lack of common sense using the sliding door to go out to the pool and leaving it open. That's my only reason for not wanted a ground floor.

Ditto! I know they can get in on any level, but I just "feel better" being higher up. Plus, I like having more of a view.


BTW, can someone please tell me if Value Resorts have elevators?
