Why do some people feel the need to be nasty?

I'm just asking because sometimes, I read very innocent threads, sometimes they're meant to be tongue-in-cheek, yet someone always seems to kill the mood. :confused3

Why? In all my years of DISing, I've never encountered such hostile posts in the middle of such innocuous threads. :confused3

It's just got me totally bewildered.

Have some fun people. Not everything is as serious as a heart attack. :)

Some people get into bad moods and some people seem to live in bad moods. It's the only excuse I can think of.

It happens in streaks...we get lots of good fun fluff posts and then all of the sudden the nasties come out. I try very hard to stay away from them. I hate the ones where it is "gang up on a poster" time.

Pile on threads disgust me. They really do. But the ones that are really annoying me lately, are the ones where everyone is having a good old time, and then BAM! someone comes along and just pulls the plug on the whole party. I feel sorry for people like that. They must have a very miserable life.

Patti, there is one particular poster here (who's on his third or fourth post-banning username) who seems to enjoy more than anything to stir the pot or pick at women and their experiences/opinions.

He (and there are others like him) reminds me of the loser in high school who'd try to be provocative just for a bit of attention--whether it be positive or negative, but now they can do it anonymously behind a computer screen. Such behavior tends to come across more as a pathetic attempt to be noticed rather than anything else.

I see more and more ugly posts that usually happen after a debate gets started. However, I am guilty of throwing my 2 cents in when a subject comes around that I have a strong feeling about. :guilty:

The posts that really bother me are when people continously START threads about their "experiences" with so and so that are always so negative. Its always the same posters that start the same old crap. I don't understand why some people only have negativity to share :confused3

I call it the Wet Blanket Syndrome. If someone sees a bunch of people having a good time, they just can't stand it.

They must, no matter the cost, no matter how much of a jerk they come off as, they must end that good time.

I don't understand it, but it seems to be a way of life on these boards for some people. :guilty:

What's his name?? :woohoo:

I can understand some people getting out of hand on a debate thread. I think that is to be expected.

I don't understand why that happens on a play thread though.

Sarcasm is the problem. The person delivering it may think it is funny, but very often it is either misconstrued as a serious message or not appreciated as a joke. Many of us are very religious or spiritual people, and don't find it funny when a joke is an affront to strongly-held beliefs or principles of one's faith. A good joke is something which everyone uniformly sees as funny. The safest thing to do is to make all tongue-in-cheek remarks self-deprecating... the only person who should ever have reason to feel aggrieved by your joke should be yourself.

I guess I miss the debate forum because I try and stay out of threads where people are getting nasty, giving strong negative opinions without being asked, or just plain being mean. Ever since that forum has been gone, I've noticed lots of debates moved here to the CB.

I come here to the DIS to have fun, lighten my mood, talk about Disney and generally be friendly.

I find posts like this extremely annoying...

I agree that I'm frustrated by the people who feel the need to throw a wet blanket over people who are having fun. Like has been mentioned, I can understand things getting heated in a debate thread, but in a fun thread? But I don't understand a lack of respect in any thread--people can state their opinions respectfully.

But then again, I've been accused of being nasty by a poster even when I had a smilie in the the post, meaning that I was joking , so I do think that we should look for the meaning of the post, especially when provided a cheat sheet in the form of a few well placed smilies.

OK, off my soapbox... :teeth:

Some of these "fun" theads where most posters are just having a good old time, are nothing but an avenue for some to insult others.

Here's a link to one from last summer.

I try to only post positive thoughts to others. I've been raised on positive reinforcement and believe that it spreads good.
I won't get involved in bashing. It's poison and not good for the soul. I think there's enough "poisonous" stuff in the world to add to it. We should be good to each other.

Hi grinningghost! Hope you're having a lovely morning! :goodvibes

I agree w/this - everyone is having fun, then someone stomps all over them for no good reason. :sad2:

A miserable existance is the only explanation for wasting time to post such doom & gloom... :rolleyes2

Have a great day fellow :) happy :) DIS'ers!
