Why do people take luggage with them on ME?

If you have a carry on do you bring it onto the bus or do they have to store it under the bus? We may be arriving late and I want to have pjs and clothes for the next morning and have bell services hold our checked luggage til the next day. Thanks.

Depends on the size of the bag. If it's a tote bag, then you can keep it with you. But, if it's larger, truly a piece of luggage, then they will put it underneath. You will get it when you get to the resort. The driver will take it out and hand it to you as soon as you arrive.
Checked luggage goes on an entirely different truck.

I noticed this when we returned on Saturday; two large families traveling together and they took every single solitary piece of luggage on the bus with them.

They had three full carts of luggage. Luckily two buses showed up for the 2:15 pick-up - we only ended up having about ten of us on the second bus, including this family.

Someone else asked why they brought all of their luggage and they said one piece of luggage was lost on the way down, so they weren't taking any chances.

Seriously, one of 22 pieces of luggage. I had to wait about ten minutes for them to finally get access to my one duffel bag in the next compartment. They did tip the guy well though.

This was us our trip a couple weeks ago.... while flying on the plane it occured to me, AHHH, forgot to put the yellow tags on the luggage! 9th trip, always do it... not sure why I forgot!
Thankfully, only had one checked piece. But was fuming, thinking it would slow us down and we'd have to wait longer for a bus. Turned out perfect timing, luggage came right out, and made it right onto a bus full of people that had been sitting a while waiting to fill up.

Carry ons though... four of us, each with four carry ons - whatever dimension that airline we're on allows, we make sure to have it as big as we can. Just like having everything with us and not checked (and also the cost issue of checking luggage)

But am SOOO glad I remember in air I left the yellow tag off - would have gone to resort and wondered why our luggage never arrived if hadn't realized it!

Actually you did not have to collect your bags. You could have shown the DME agent your claim checks and they would have retrieved them from the carousel, tagged them, and placed them in the DME system for you.

For the arrival, we ALWAYS use the luggage service. For the return we rarely use RAC.

It just doesn't work for us. When we fly, it is a weekend warriror trip, so we are on an 8:something pm flight, which means we can't use RAC till 8:something am.

Since we are on the bus by 6:30 - 7:00 in the morning for breakfast somewhere, and don't return till about 3pm, we can't use RAC.

Also, if we use RAC, then we have to drag our bags up front ourselves (Value Resort). If we don't use RAC, then we just call Luggage Services, leave all our bags in the room, and they pick them up at their convenience.

I was thinking of bringing my Vera Bradley large duffle, would that probably have to go under the bus?

A relatively reasonable check would be: if it fit under the seat in front of you on the plane, you should be able to bring it into the bus. If it was stowed overhead, it'll be too big for you to safely hold in your lap on the bus so it'll have to go under the bus.

We carried our bags because of the possible wait time.

We knew we would get to our hotel about 8:30 - 9 pm. Part of what we wanted to do was get unpacked and settled before bed. Since it can take up to 3 hour to get the luggage, we didn't want to take any chances on not having time to unpack or having to "wait up" for luggage.

Thanks for your responses! I have been doing some reading on the Resorts Board and it talks about people cleaning their rooms upon arrival, bringing their own sheets, leaving luggage stored while they check for bed bugs, washing all the dishes in their DVC villa, hand sanitizing constantly, etc. I wondered if toting your own luggage was a similar phenomenon. These efforts make me tired just thinking about it! I wonder if they do this on all vacations or just Disney.

Overall, people need to do what they need to do to make themselves feel safe. However, in regards to taking luggage on the ME busses, I definitely thought that the length of my transport was much longer due to all of the luggage on the busses.

As I said....we normally take ME, but after the long wait for the bus and the lengthy commute I am considering renting a car for our next trip.
I grew up going to disney and we always had a rental car but I think ME is a way better option. I know peoples luggage can be irritating and slow things down but picking up, fueling up and then returning/dropping off the rental is a big hassle and cost. For me its worth the cost savings to wait. Id recommend giving it another go because there can be big waits and delays with rental companies. I rent cars for work all the time and it happens and its costly.

Have fun on your next trip!
