Why do people insist on setting off fireworks!

So for the last week, the neighbors down the block have started their annual fireworks, almost nightly. And last night, for the second time, they have woken my 20 month old DD up (might I add, she's not the easiest to get to sleep). So now I'm not happy and want to do something about it. I don't feel comfortable just asking them nicely not to do it, because I don't know them well.

Also note a few things.....they usually do this around 10pm, and these are the same people who temporarily blinded their dog last year when they were doing this, because the dog got too close to the fireworks. We looked out the window last year to see the noise, and saw them pick up the dog and rush it in the car, assumingly to the vet. The dog was gone a few days, and then was back, but you could tell had been injured.

I usually don't complain about this stuff, but now that its affecting DD I'm not too happy about it. What should I do? Thanks.

know them very well, I would still try and ask them nicely, and explain that your baby is sleeping. They do this every night?

Couple of my neighbors have been setting theirs off around 3:00 a. m.

Unless you have a noise statute you really don't have a leg to stand on. You can try and ask nicely, but it is just a likely to backfire on you.

Are fireworks legal where you live? Here there is a hefty fine (I believe around $2000) for even being in possession of them in the city limits.

I'm so sorry but I have to say at least they carried the dog to the vet which says something (animal lover here).

We enjoy fireworks around the 4th BUT we do them in the country. Our city has an ordinance of no fireworks inside the city limits. So we usually buy them and go out into the country somewhere.

You always have to be so careful not to start a fire as well I would think it could be dangerous with houses around.

They make me nervous. On the 4th of July my BIL always sets them off. What I really hate is when people shoot off guns on New Years Eve. Very scary.

Fireworks are illegal in NY, but you'd never know it. People set them off all the time around here and the police just look the other way.

IMO it's a lot easier to be tolerant around the 4th of July. This early I wouldn't be feeling very tolerant - it's hard to think of a month of it!

Here they do stakeouts on fireworks stands and if you enter the city limits you are BUSTED!

It's so much fun to watch it happen. Some idiot gets a hefty fine and gets his bag of goodies confiscated :teeth:

I think we have about a week and a half until they can start selling them here (10 days prior to the 4th and New Years) then the ones who get them past the Fire Marshalls will be keeping us awake for a few nights.

I live outside the city limits so it's legal in my neighborhood unfortunately.
We have neighbors that think it's the 4th of July every weekend. They would shoot them til 4a.m.
The neighbors on the other side approached them in a nice way, didn't work, they tried to blow up his mailbox but the neighbor chased them away with a bat. After that failed he started calling the cops. After the cops came out a third time which was over 4 months ago we haven't heard a peep out of them. Of course we will around the 4th and that is okay but not all year round for crying out loud!!
People that shoot fireworks til early morning are already showing you they dont give a crap about whether they disturb you so approaching them usually wont work.

That almost happened to my BIL last year. Almost. Someone called to report that he had a ton of fireworks in his house. The police came, looked at his WAREHOUSE of fireworks and told him to have a good 4th. Then they left. I would have LOVED to see them take his thousands of dollars worth of fireworks away. If you ask me, it's a huge waste of money.

<font color=navy>Back in '79, the neighborhood kids were setting off bottle rockets (illegal here in Los Angeles), and my dad smelled smoke, so he ran upstairs to see where the fire was -- IT WAS OUR ROOF! So, we called the fire dept. (or 911 if we had it back then), and he & my brother also started hosing down our roof. We had that shake shingle at the time (like everyone else in the neighborhood).

They've been shooting off fireworks for a couple of weeks now, and the sounds make me a bit nervous, too.

My ex boyfriend (hes my best friend, we're on great terms) and father just went up to New England and bought a HUGE amound of them for their annual 4th bbq. You should see his room and the garage, something like a grand worth of fireworks. They won't set them off until the 4th.

Personally, I'm excited :)

I would be aggravated if my neighbors set them off this early, let alone every night. I would just kindly ask them to wait until the fourth, and remind them that you have a young child.
