Gem says:

Why does she feel the need to keep slagging it off, you guys seriously dont believe the nonsense. Im really looking forward to my trip and she is just putting a big downer on it :(

I live less than an hours drive from Thorpe Park.
I could probably go there every day for a week, if I chose, then come home and sleep in my own bed for 'free'.

But Thorpe Park is not the same, it's not even close in my opinion! DD and I have been to DLRP twice now, and we are excited about going back next Easter, as we will no doubt have a fantastic time yet again! We are also planning a trip beyond that (probably Halloween). It's not just about the rides, but the atmosphere, the parades, the shows...

So, do we think it's worth it? Well, what do you think???

I am suspecting your friend has not been to any Disneyland Park before, she may even be a bit jealous, either way she sounds like the kind of friend worth avoiding, if she can't be positive about your trip.

Hope I am not coming across as being too blunt? :goodvibes

Gem sounds like my sil's friend. We have booked for 7 days next MArch and she keeps saying to my sil, "you are mad, what are you going to do for 7 days, I wouldn't go that long or even back again". Her friend went the week after us alst year and said she wasn't too impressed by it. I say it is because she wasn't with us. We had soooo much fun and really enjoyed it. :) Thats why we are going longer next year.

She said she went DLRP a few years ago and this i guess is why she had her opinion, but to try and say its rubbish when im about to go is so unfair. Yes i have been to florida twice but that does not mean i will not enjoy DLRP. Im so excited about my holiday and i wish my friends could just be happy for me.
I cant wait to tell her what a fab time i had and that im DEFFO going back again for 7 days lol.

If you want to go to DLRP for whatever period of time, go and enjoy at your own pace. Do the things you enjoy doing. Visting DLRP is exciting but will only be what you make it. If your friend chooses not to go then that is her choice and don't be put off by that. I have been a few times now and plan to keep visiting.

This year it would seem they are a bit more expensive due to the 15th Anniversary. On a plus there are more things to see and do. As an adult it is a place to go whereby you can just enjoy indulging the child within for a time. Don't let anyone take that away from you.

Try not to fume. That will cost you more effort that your friend. Save your energies for DLRP ;-)

I say go and have a great time. I'm going for 8 nights next year because I don't want to be rushing around. We also want to go to sea life this time. Maybe I just do things at a slower pace. We spent 3 days at legoland over the summer and i want to go back in oct half term, we didn't do everything we wanted.

I would love to go for 7 days, if I did then I might even get to the shopping centre, we've never made it there yet!

Our problem right now is we are tied to school holidays, we also try and go away with the rest of the family (yes, there is a DH and DS floating about who feel two trips to DL Cali was enough :lmao: ). In fact next year I am going to DLRP with DD in March and then on a cruise in April with DH, lucky me huh, I get to go away twice!

This has probably what scuppered our original plans to return to DLRP in June next year, when DD finished school, we had planned to make it a week then so as to really relax and enjoy it. I've just been diagnosed as having MS, which means we will have to take it easier next time anyway, I think it was 12 hours a day standing in queues and walking about that landed me in hospital in April this year, with a subsequent diagnosis :rolleyes1

DD has said she would forego the June plans, if we can go for Halloween instead :yay:

Aww i would try not to let your friend spoil anything for you. I have relatives that are like that. Saying things like 'i would never ever go somewhere like that, its not a holiday. its just tacky and over priced'. But the places they class as holidays couldnt be further away from what i would like.
I would love to spend a week there, it would be amazing!! I havent been yet but im sure there is plenty to do for the full week. Its not just a normal theme park.
To me, i think of WDW and i'll think the same for DLP- that its like another world. Your away from everything else and its all so perfect and happy there. I think its a great idea and i hope you have a really fantastic time.

luv

thanks guys youve really cheered me up.

Im not going to let one person ruin my holiday and future holidays to DLRP.

Good girl :goodvibes
Most of the people who don't get it have most probably only ever seen a jaded review on a holiday programme or reading their daily rag.

We know that Disney is not for everyone, but thank goodness we can share our interest with similar souls :grouphug:

Emma, there are people on this forum, myself included who return to DLRP year after year, some fortunate ones have several trips a year, some go for daytrips or weekends and others for extended vacations, it's not a cheap option for a trip whichever way you do it and yet we all keep going back, so there must be something about DLRP that's right.
Ignore your friend and concentrate on you and your DS having a fun, magical time together and if your friend is going to be critical of your plans, then don't tell her, you can always come and chat about them on here, where everyone's more than happy to listen. :grouphug:

i know how you feel - i have been getting hassle for 15 years off of friends, my dad, relatives etc because i keep going back 'on the same holiday - how can you not be bored of it??' the cheek of it is - THEY go on the same holiday again and again, to beaches where they lie about all day. now THAT seems like a real bore to me, but i respect their decision!! who am i to judge!?

you are going to have a great time. don't let the narrow mindedness of others influence ANYTHING you do! And yes, I suspect your friend is also jealous - a lot of mean things said by 'friends' stem from the green-eyed monster!

i always say to her that if thats bad why do lots of people go back every year.

Who cares what she thinks, because when i come back i will rub it in her face about what a FABULOUS time i had lol.

Least u got you guys here who share my love of all things Disney :D xxx

Hi Emma~ Like other people have said some people just dont understand/like disney and i have a had many ppl say to me "arent you too old for a disney holiday". But at the end of the day holidays are for enjoying and if thats the type of holiday you want to go on and like doing then ~who cares what other people think:rolleyes1 i'm sure you and you DD will have a lovely time and it'll be very special for you.:wizard:

We went for 7days on our first trip~ i didn't really know alot about DLP before going but booked for that long anyway because i didnt want to be rushing around. We spent one whole day in Paris and half a day at the shopping centre and then the evening in the park, so we had 5 full days in the parks from opening untill near to closing. But IMO we could have stayed alot longer, theres still things i've seen/heard about on here and on websites that we didnt get to see and do.Thinking back now it was a very busy holiday and we could have relaxed abit more if we had gone for longer, ~really, it amazes me how ppl say they can do the park in two/three days.

I think it also depends on what your going for and who your going with really, for people that just view DLP as a theme park and want the big thrills then yes it prob wont be for them. But for me~ i love big rides and the little ones and i just completely buy into the whole disney magic:wizard: Theres def plenty to do for however long you stay and altho i haven't been for the christmas season(yet!! not long to go:cheer2: ) i can imagine it's probably one of the best places to be at that time of year :santa: you'll have a wonderful time:goodvibes

I took my 2 boys to DLP after Christmas this year in January. We had a ball my kids,dh and me loved the place and plan to return soon.

When we came home I was telling my sil about it.I said that if she ever got the opportunity to take her boys she really should.they would love it ........her reply was No we would want to do the "real thing".....meaning Florida.

What is that all about ??? Did my kids experience a fake disney....I don't think so.

I think it was just jealously but it is hard not to feel upset at stupid comments like that

I have been getting the same slack from my mother... we are moving back stateside next summer. We are planning one more trip to DLRP before we go- for 5 days. I told my mom I hope we end up in NV, or California- Or somewhere in the south... as Annual passes to Anaheim or WDW there aren't too expensive.
She doesn't get it- and gives me a bunch of flack for it. "What is your thing with Disney?!" I can't make her understand, and I have given up trying. Maybe you should do the same with your friend and limit your conversations with her to other stuff. Don't let her rain on your Parade of Dreams. :cheer2:

I have decied that the world is divided into 2 sorts of people. Those who get Disney and those who don't. we should all be sympathetic to those who don't as they are missing out.:cool1:

my mother is not mad on Disney but happy to go to DLRP (and contribute) because she loves to se the kids (and us!) enjoying ourselves. I think poeple who don't enjoy it are those who don't know how - and planning is part of it ;) not just to break up the waiting, but so that you get to see all you want to at a pace which suits you. The first time we went I didn't know about this board and we did miss things, and spend time walking to places because we hadn't planned a route, but we still had a good time. And when we go back we'll have meals booked in advance so we won't walk to 3 different places before we find one open:rotfl:

Some poeple like different things. One of the mums at school took her kids and didn't book any character meals or anything. really she just wanted to sit by the pool all day. That is NOT my thing!
