Why do people dislike giving gift cards?

I love, love, love getting gift cards but am so hesitant in giving them for gifts.

By giving a gift card, I feel like I'm telling the recipient that I didn't put any time/thought/effort/energy into getting them a "real" gift. I'm sure nobody thinks that way b/c I never do!!!! I am just thrilled when I get one!!!

try to think that w/the gift card, they can get something they really want rather than my attempt of what I think they want! I know that, sometimes when I get a gift I think "Ugh - I'll never use this -- why couldn't they just give me a gift card?!"

While I think gift cards are the greatest thing since sliced bread, I continue to hesitate on giving them b/c I don't want to give the impression that I didn't care enough when, perhaps I do care enough to allow them to get their heart's desire instead of something they don't want.

I love getting gift cards. I don't mind getting them either. They're awesome!

For my dad I always get him a Sears gift card for Christmas. He loves tools and has tons of them. So it's alot easier for me just to get him a gift card and let him get what he wants or what he doesn't have yet.

For his fiance, she loves Bath & Body Works {is that the name? LOL!} I don't care for the place, but he says she is always getting certain items from there.
Again, it's alot easier for me just to get her a gift card and let her get what she likes.

I don't mind getting gift cards. I wish my MIL would give them to me at Christmas instead of trying to buy for me. Over the years things I have gotten from her end up in the back of the closet. The clothes she buys for me I don't think she would even wear. Then the clothes she buys for DD, YUCK!!!!
