Why do people bring infants?

I'd like to know - why bring an infant to the parks? From what I have observed, there's very little for them to do, they don't remember anything when they're that young, and there's always a parent that has to stay back away from the rest of the group riding rides, and misses out on everything. The parents with a screaming baby in their arms look miserable. Then again, the parents with a screaming 4 year old in their arms look miserable. :upsidedow

My friend responded to this question once - "Because it's illegal if you leave them at home" - funny, but you also have this insane unpopular choice of not going to Disney until your infant is older.

But that's just my opinion.

Do you have children?
Why is this always the default question asked when people ask about children? She was asking a curious question.

I just don't think that this was a necessary question to ask of a valid question that even other parents have asked.

ETA: I am not a parent. I know of many parents who always ask why other parents bring their newborn/infant into the parks when there's nothing for them to do and I know of other parents who just don't bring them along. There's clearly no right or wrong answer to this anyway.

We brought our 10 month old and had an amazing experience. Of course we know she won't remember anything, but we will treasure our memories of walking around with her, seeing the shows, some rides, and playing peekaboo with Mulan and Aurora. It was a really special trip. I'm sure it's not for everybody, but for us it was spectacular.

Sometimes I wonder if people plan their trips so far out the baby comes in the mean time so they all go. Yes I suppose they could cancel it or move the dates, but really it's their trip & who am I to judge anybody. Heck if I recently popped out a baby I would want a trip to MY happy place!! :rotfl:

The only time I really notice infants is when they are REALLY TINY and that is only cause I have no baby experience so I wonder with germs/cooties/etc... if they are that little should they be in a public place, but then I guess it's no different than any other public place you take them?

Well, my kids are my family and if we have a trip planned and they are infants they are going. We never did WDW when the kids were that little but I wouldn't not do it.
I'd rather take an infant on a plane than a 2 yr old :)

Seriously, we took my DS when he was 18mos and we loved it. My kids never really threw fits though as long as we were moving. But I also knew, my kids are done by 8pm, we leave. Not pushing it.

**edited to say** As for missing rides to stay with infant , it's okay with me because I really go to WDW for ambience and experience. Not much of a ride person

Oh Em Geee! I love babies at the parks! I missed getting to take my girls when they were babies, but totally plan on it for any and all new additions to our family. We've toured WDW with friends that had infants, and while there is a different schedule and you have to maintain appropriate expectations, it's so much fun!

The original post has a very judgmental tone, which I think is the reason for the somewhat chilly response.

Agree and to be honest, after my 3rd - her siblings were probably brining worse things home from school and touching and kissing the baby. People in public aren't doing that, lol

1. Maybe they have been planning the trip from before they ever got pregnant and don't want to put it off.

2. Perhaps they also have older kids and don't want them to miss out on a trip just because their brother or sister isn't old enough to enjoy the rides or remember things.

3. Could be that they want to take their infant just for kicks and to maybe get some cute photos of the baby with various characters all while having a good time themselves.

18 months is fine by me, that's a toddler age to me. I'm talking fresh out of the womb wrinkly little 6 week old babies here.

I've always wondered the same thing.

And YES, I have a child.

It made more sense, for our family, to wait to go until he was old enough to remember the trip. He was also old enough to walk and not need a stroller.

We did smaller, local parks when he was younger.

I brought my infant to the parks because she was part of my family and there was no freaking way I was leaving her home with anyone. She went wherever I went. It was really not a big deal my DH and I used the baby swap so we could ride all the attractions.
